Steam community awards for Steam Discussions

It often happens when the community helps me, it would be cool to be able to reward for the message.

Options get added and removed from code constantly, not everything gets pushed to production. Steam has had previously code hinting at stuff that never got added.

this indicate that this was added with the intent of being rolled out. there is probably no intentions of changing their minds, unless the backlash once rolled out is great.
i doubt that backlash people are insinuating will happen is blown out of proportions.

however the people that do not like awards and wants to abandon the forums because they think awards are going to ruin the forums, might as well prepare themselves to not revisit the forums.
I am 95% sure this will be rolled out during winter sale event (awards sale event), as the added functions just happened a day ago leading up to this winter sale event (awards sale event).

No one will abandon the forums because of awards however they may because of the spam that will result from it
Awards are great in the right place, as long as it doses not push for spam or miss-use of the system to a degree that it harms the system where its suppose to enhance it

Honestly, if Valve just put the system in without some smarter move to block the spam, I will really get the feeling there learn nothing from the badge spam that happens before, and remain with us till today after it was all ready removed

Regulars won't leave even if it results in a spamfest. However the levels of spam have an effect for new users wondering to join. If a forum gives the impression of being ridden with spam people might not want to participate in it. Which ultimately puts a notch in those 'engagement graphs' business love to have around (and which are the focus of many features, awards being one of them)

Sales are a good moment to entice people to engage with new systems (lots of sales have had events related to engage people with Steam features: Visiting the recommendation queue, upload artwork, write reviews, trade...)
However it's not the best moment to push a new feature to production as they're pretty support-intensive periods to be around fiddling with the site code.
I have the feeling the sale will be just centered around the points shop. It's their new toy and it's been around as to put the weight of a sale on top of it.

it is not your task to deal with spam.. let the moderators handle it. all you have to do, if it bothers you that much, is either report the comment / topic or learn how to ignore it.

well, I am not saying it will be rolled out, i am just stating there is high probability that it will be rolled out. it might have something to do with the steam awards being the winter sale event. it is a guess, but i think there will be tasks during this event that might require people to award steam profiles, topics and comments.. maybe there won't maybe there will. we will have to wait and find out.

You still seem to be under the impression that we are trying to moderate the forums with all this when we can't, because we are not moderators.

No we just want to use the forums without the spam, if this award stuff happens, the spam will start the mods will have a hard time keeping up because we have seen it time and time again with limited time events that require people to do stuff on the forums.

Even years later we still get people spamming the forums to get a badge, its not often but its still annoying.

If this come to the forums, its not going to be a temp thing that causes a bunch of spam and then goes away at the end of the event, that would tick of way too many people that they wasted their points, we already have people spamming and screaming about how they wasted free points on stuff they can't move or delete.

We don't want to have to wade though a bunch of spam, that we know for a fact will happen because its happened in the past with the old forums, to find the posts we want to reply to.


We are letting the Steam admins know without a shadow of a doubt that there are many here that HATE this idea.

But I care for the usefulness of the fourm as a hub to help pepole, something spam can really harm

If I walk in a store and see an object on the ground shuld I leave there and not care becuse I am not a worker in the shop? I do care that someone else may trip on it, and it dose not need to be my job tk care about that

agreed, people seem to be farming award points since it was created, quite tired of seeing the awards spam already.

@Avroveks, further development has been made and it would appear this is just a click away from being rolled out.
they added more award reactions, and also added a what i presume is going to be a dropdown menu when you receive a lot of rewards, to show them all.
