Allow me to toggle seeing swear words
Look, I get you don't want a toxic platform.

But what if I can choose to see the swears?

A lot of games have that option. They disable voice and swear by default and let the players choose for themselves.

THIS IS NOT AN INCENTIVE TO TOXICITY.

I don't believe saying things like the hard N should be allowed, but things like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and ♥♥♥♥ shouldn't be a problem if a player chooses to interact with it.

EDIT:

Valve has swear toggle on steam chat, not community forums. It might be either a technical issue or a community issue for them no to put swear toggle on community forums. For anyone saying they shouldn't because X, they already did something like it.

It censor a lot of links. Other thing is you don't need swear words to talk to other people.

The toggle is not for the forums or your profile if you actually read what the toggle was for.

This is what I did specifically...

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/12/4420805388060811363/#c4420805388065290437

And the only things filtered are blacklisted links and hard coded filtered words like, free and skins. Put the 2 words together and they are filtered no matter what. And websites added to the filter.

Alright, that's a workaround. I would like it as a proper feature though.

Keep the links. As I said, I wouldn't mind R words or spam links being shown as hearts while censor is off.

That being said, I wouldn't mind a option to show the link "per-link" basis.

If I understand correctly, OP wants to have an option to see violations of the Steam Community rules?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4045-USHJ-3810 is always in the sidebar.
It's under the "Content Rules" section.

There are 2 things I see there that this might "break"
1 - Offending others
2 - circumventing the filter system

My response to this is that you don't need swear words to offend someone, and you cant circumvent a system you choose to disable.

Abusive language, including swearing

Posting swear words are against the rules, so it doesn't really make much sense that Steam would implement a system that lets people see that language that is blatantly against the rules.

Ah the translation is different on my side, this completely changes things.

"Abusive language, including swear words" do they mean swear are abusive or swear can be abusive?

And as I iterate again, the guy has an OPTION to see that. If you're fancy sugar you stay like it is currently.

Abusive language which includes swear words are NOT allowed on the forum and break the rules. Hence why it makes no sense to add an option to show something that is not allowed.

It doesn't matter what you want, your using Steam's forums so you obey their rules.

This is a suggestion, it's something I want that needs a change from a current system. Valve made the rules and they can change the rules.

It's also based on systems that worked on other plataforms like I said.

Yeah valve made the rules and they don't want swear words on their platform. So the odds of them changing those rules after years of enforcing it are basically nil.

If you can't communicate without using profanity then you really need to look at yourself and work on expressing yourself.

Pretty much ALL gaming platforms have a no profanity rule. There are younger kids that use these forums and there is no place for it,

sure thing, but there is nothing wrong adjusting your expectations.
Wait, isn't there a swearfilter on the forums that you can turn off? What happened to that?

The toggle itself was never meant for the forums.
