twisting words
Hey steam, can you have a rule against 'twisting someones words to suit your own rhetoric'?

I feel like its more inflammatory, AND DISRESPECFUL, than anything else to reductively 'paraphrase' someone in a way that creates a negative portrayal of what they are saying.

You already have a recent thread discussing the disrespectful rule:

There's also a big difference between people twisting words, which is not the scenario, and giving accurate replies.

:rl2shrug: So report the content whereïn someone’s paraphrase gets to inflammatory or disrespectful degree.

“Twisting words to suit one’s rhetoric” reads like a paraphrase of the straw man, fwiw.

This rule would backfire immensely.
OP makes a thread about twisting words, LITERALLY twisting others words to suit a narrative to justify it.

Given the context, that would be an accurate assessment.

So you want control of the narrative?

Considering his MO of trying to self moderate the threads he posts, yes.
If there were a rule against unfalsifiable bad faith assumptions, pretty much all the regulars here would be gone overnight. (And I would be too because most people here would no longer need the help I have been trying to give.)

it is insane to suggest me saying I dont want people to reduce my paragraphs to twisted one liners that make it sound like im saying something negative is saying I want to control the narrative. never even mind its a specific suggestion that actually wouldnt impact the post you just made at all. it would only impact anyone mockishly making their own version of what someone said.

and since I get that was a lot of words

What you just said would be fine, al be it clearly a highly reduced, insane, take of what I said... but if you tried to make quotes claiming I said that then it wouldnt be.

I respect, and agree, that the forums... nay, the world.... should be more free. there are too many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ regulations. However, you are fighting the wrong person because this isnt about that.

Would that include calling people "wannabe Valve employees"?

That goes directly against previous posts.

After my posts where I called them out were moderated ...

A user took a quote from me into their OP without context - which was pretty much the opposite of what they presented it as - to make it look like I was supporting a cause they very well knew I wasn't supportive of.

All I asked for was them removing my quote ...

Highest level internet pro tip: There are two types of people who never say anything worthwhile. First is the guy who uses "I" "me" "heres what I do" in excessive quantities in every post where not otherwise needed.

Second, and most important, is ANY variation of "Sounds like you think that..." just stop reading any post that opens with that.
