Steam SHOULD tell you when/if your reports are reviewed or not.
Currently there's no way you know if your report has been reviewed, you only know if the user gets banned, trade banned etc...

Steam says this is to protect their moderation but that makes absolutely no sense and it is definitely protecting scammers and showing 0 transparency to victims of scams.

You get a notification when a report you submitted is actioned.

Mind that in regards scams lots of accounts used for that purpose are compromised accounts from previous victims. Not the actual real accounts of the scammer. So the action may have been taken elsewhere than the account you reported.

Well then Steam hasn't done anything with my report in months

I really don't want my community notifications tab blown up by another 300 "report reviewed" messages I can never, EVER delete.

I also fail to see how this mechanism would impact scams or whatever. A "your report was rejected" wouldn't be any less maddening or more useful than silence.

I feel the current notification works well enough. You're told when your report does something and thats all anyone needs to know. Whats the point in knowing they're looking at it if in the end the report is tossed anyway?

Have you heard of.... I don't know... not sending more reports because you know they are reviewing it/tossed it away? There would be less duplicated reports and make the moderation a lot easier

I think they are always reviewed within 24 hours but if you really need to know you could always contact support directly and at least you might get a response saying they have taken a look, it’s unlikely they will share much more than that though.

I'm not sure about the 'less maddening' part. Twitter does notify you when a report you make isn't actioned because it didn't break the rules and that gets a lot of people's jimmies rustled regularly.
fluxtorrent 6 JUN 2024 a las 23:41
As far as I can tell only the first person to report gets a notification that action was taken, due to the way reports work, so its entirely possible the account was actioned on even if you didnt get a notification.

And no notification is issued if the action isn't taken from the report itself

On the bright side it would open an opportunity for many pages of easy content where people insist there is hidden justifying context in the "This report was reviewed and denied" messages whenever people complain a rule breaking post wasn't deleted.

You aren't owed any notification from a platform that you do not own or operate. If Valve gives you a template response, it is more than you need. You can either twiddle your thumbs or simply move on after reporting. Best of luck, blocked, etc.

Every report is reviewed. There's no such thing as a report that is "not reviewed". It's either "been reviewed" or "not reviewed yet"

The action the moderators decide to take can vary. Sometimes they delete the post. Sometimes they issue a ban. Sometimes it's a warning. Sometimes they just put a note on the person's account for next time. On small game hubs, that note might only exist in the mind of that game's moderator. Sometimes reports aren't even about something that breaks the rules. (If you post a thread in the wrong subforum, moderators are able to help you out with that, for example.)

They should stop sending out those useless notifications. They aren't actually informative, as it doesn't even mention which report it refers to, so might be better to not have them at all.
Volfogg 7 JUN 2024 a las 14:21
Well... What do you need that information whether they are reviewed or not for anyway? Why would anyone need that?
I dunno. I personally never reported anyone, because I never had any practical reason to do so.
And notifications? There are already too many of these to begin with. Why would I want more?

Normally I'd say if you report so many posts you lose track off, it's time to get a break.
But considering that I get notifications weeks after I made any report ... like the ♥♥♥♥ was that about?

Which likely means they have determined there's nothing actionable in your reports.
