Also, have you decided yet whether the reason you don't want people posting in other languages is that you're afraid they might secretly say something naughty or is it a matter of courtesy or is it that you need to know what everyone's saying at all times? It seems like someone who wants to cause trouble would simply provide a wrong translation.
also the wordfilter is quite multi-lingual.
Wether or not they have state legislation on official language per state is a technicality. English is required to become part of the Union in the first place.
@Dendrobates My reasoning is courtesy as well as safety. Yes they can provide a wrong translation however doing so should violate Steam/Valve Terms Of Service. The clause should be added to the TOS at such time. It is a public place so all the public should be able to read it.
@wuddih Google Translate is wrong more than it is correct. I have a number of forign friends that tell me never to use it because many times it is way off.
edit: puerto ricans mostly speak spanish, with english having secondary recognition
@Dendrobates how about an international section of the forum where they can post what they like and leave the main forum as english only. I know a bunch of sites that do that very thing.
@ Gas Mask This is a grey area as it has been established as a "unwritten policy" as best as i can discover. But to support my claim, anyone applying for US citizenship must pass the english exam and show that they can speak and read english. So although the freedom of this country allows for states to choose or not to choose. It is enherently recognized that we want english speaking as our national language including states.
