European and American Spanish distinction
Are enough games out lately with the Latin translation and dubbing too, and in the forums for each game there are some controversy because of the confusion.

I propose this idea to avoid precisely so that the language table each game both languages appear, distinguishing between European Spanish and Latin American Spanish.

I'm curious, how big is the difference between European Spanish and American Spanish compared to say the differences between American English and British English?

The difference between American and British is how they act, and speak.

I was asking how written/spoken Spanish in Europe/America compares to the differences in English for Britain (or Euurope)/America.

Languages in game are all up to the developers and publishers of the games. You would need to ask each one in their own discussion areas to make these changes.

I think he wants a distiction in the store page. Like where it lists languages, Spanish would be replaced by 2 Spanishes: Spanish (European) and Sanish (American).

I was trying to guage how different the two actually are and how much it affects understanding a game.

If you know Spanish you will understand both of them but as he said it creates controversy. Some people would prefer a game in Spanish from Spain and others prefer it in Spanish from Latin-America, and most of the time they're always insulting and mocking each other just because "no! this dub from my country is better than this dub of your country", so to avoid threads like that he suggests to add a new tab in the store to know which one of them is.
Yes, discussions like that are so stupid I can't, but it's true it creates controversy and it wouldn't be that bad to know which dub and/or sub it has.

About your question, the differences are just accents, words, etc. but tv shows, movies, etc. have their own dub. You have dub from Spain and dub from Latin-America; it doesn't happen that much in games (most of them are Spanish from Spain) but it seems that more games are also appearing in Latin-American Spanish. The only one I can think right now is Scribblenauts Unlimited which is only in Latin-American Spanish.

It looks like hes talking about in the actual game, cause right from the first sentence...

There is no dubbing on a games page, that would just be a translation.

The differences are actually quite comprable. ANy language evolves over time and based on the sphere of reference and interactions with other languages and cultures. It's why english is such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a language in of it self. it went all soggy biscuit with all the romantic languages and the germanic, and the cyrillic/nordic and the gaelic languages.

Exactly, CharlestONE, a distinction in store page is what I want, in the same way that there are two different types of portuguesses or two different types of chinese.

Perquisitore explained very well the reason of controversies i was speaking about, so to avoid threads I think would be a good improvement for spanish speakers players from both sides of the ocean.

then translate it yourself, because that is how it is done one Steam.
make a group for your matter and start by translating the client, which can be done via a dozen files in the client directory.

if enough people gather and are interested in helping to translate the rest of Steam, the language will be added to the translation server and you can start translating the rest ... which is a massive amount.

I appreciate your advice, wuddih, but is not any translation of client what i meant with my pettition, it is absolutely innecesary because the understanding of both spanish is almost 100%, the real differences was explained by Persiquitone; are things like expressions, some words and specially accents dubbing which creates controversy inside the forums, where people is asking
constantly what type of spanish contains each game beacause the store page only says "spanish" but not wich.

A simple overview for both spanish on the languages table is the only thing I was talking about.
Barquillapo Jun 6, 2016 @ 4:07am
More and more games are being translated to both spanish and still no distinction in the store page language table. Users need to know the entire list of supported languages at first glance.
