Idea : Developer able to sell steam profile soundtracks at $10.
The current soundtracks in store are purchased for private use. I believe very few have purchase it since there is youtube and other audio sites.

As steam players will visit each other's profile, why not upgrade that soundtrack, and allow it to be played on profile. Of course it will come with a fee. Introducing Profile Soundtracks. Minimal $10 each.

After buying the profile soundtrack, players can add it as profile soundtrack showcase.

-----------------------------------------
| Game : Poke Fighter Z          |
| ► Song 1 ► Song 2 ► Song 3  |
-------------------------------------------

Up to 3 songs (total cost $30).

Profile visitors have to manually click and play the songs. It will not play automatically, no audio spam.

Benefits :
- A great feature for profile designers.
- Promote games : If a player likes the music, chances are he will also check out the game.
- Business : If the profile visitor likes the song, they can purchase the soundtracks for their profile too, increasing soundtrack sales.

Data :
- Each soundtrack is mp3 that's only few mb, compared to those animated backgrounds, frames, themes stuff it's small sized.

Yeah. Somne how i doubt devs are calmouring for this. Specifically because well. licensing is a ♥♥♥♥♥.

When you have a piece of music the licensing for what you can do with it is very specific. Having license to sell is not the same as license to broadcast
Reaper 29 MAY 2023 a las 11:43 a. m.
That will never happen because Valve would have to maintain the licensing on tens of thousands of songs. I'm sure there's data to track it, but for me at least, 99% of profiles I've looked at, I've never clicked on a single showcase. It certainly wouldn't convince me to buy a soundtrack. I've never understood why people buy soundtracks on steam. Youtube exists and either has the soundtrack in one video or someone has made a playlist I can just favorite.
Irene ❤ 29 MAY 2023 a las 11:45 a. m.
Player's profile is nothing more than a game advertising page.
So it's up to developers if they want to allow those tracks to be played in player's profile.

If you look up on video game soundtracks on youtube, it's usually around or less than 100k clicks. If developers can make 100k players * $10 = 1M selling it, they win big. Why keep a digital copy when nobody will buy it from store and listen in game or in youtube instead.

you are lucky, the people deciding this have already experienced this first-hand and they are not gonna let you live through the same nightmare they went through.

you're safe, you're welcome.

If they are selling songs for public broadcast, its not going to be for a one time fee of 10 bucks... it will be a monthly fee of hundreds to thousands of dollars because you want to broadcast it to lots of people.

And no, they won't be mp3s, it would be some format that can't be easily downloaded because of copyright issues.

Its not a great feature, music on websites is HATED. Why do you think Myspace died. Why do you think most if not all browsers now include ways to auto stop audio on webpages from playing.

It will not promote games. Screenshots and videos would do a much better job. Personally I turn off in game music when I play.

I very much doubt more then a couple of people will pay 10 bucks for a single song that they can only listen to by coming to their profile. If anything they would buy the soundtrack if its for sale and listen to it on their PCs/Phones/whatevers instead of having to have a net connection and load up a profile....

Not songs / boardcast - in game sound tracks, or any special game tracks they design. Can be 10 seconds short too.

An example :
https://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/730/Music%20Kit%20%7C%20Denzel%20Curry%2C%20ULTIMATE

This is a soundtrack for in game use, and everyone can hear it. So I was thinking why not sell a game track for profile use. It can be a short rap about the game, it can be a short boss fight BGM. Steam profile soundtracks, a new market for developers to explore. and suggested price $10.

You do not seem to understand the difference between licensing a song so that one person, the person playing the game, can hear the song and dozens to thousands of people hearing the song.... its a different kind of license... one thats FAR more expensive and is monthly.

And I certainly would not want to be annoyed by some 10 second clip that played once or even over and over again....

Yet again, sound on websites has annoyed people so much that browsers come with automatic settings to block audio from playing.

If developers want to sell their in game music for people to listen to, they can already do that. If they want to make a license that allows people to broadcast their music, they can already do that...

It won't auto play or loop.
The player who visit the profile gets to click and play and listen. That's all : x
They will most probably get bored, so the profile designer can buy new tracks monthly, or even weekly if they are rich.

Yes they are already doing it. Soundtracks available to be purchased on steam.
Steam has a community and people check on each other's profile for showcase. It evolves to a game avatar / background game profile. So what's next can probably be short game tracks.

Ya many have done that. The idea is to get developers to profit.. also steam to profit, and not youtube ads.
For example you visit a friend's profile. You get to see a metal gear 30 second soundtrack button. You click it and you like it. You explore metal gear in steam store. Or during a game warm up you visit the profile and just listen to it.
I feel it's a big win for everyone, a next-stage evolve from game profiles where developers design icons and wallpapers. They can design a short track, or release their best track. For $10 each.

Same difference. Still broadcasting, which is not a right that any soundtrack license conveys.

Yeah. SLight difference there m8. FIrstly. It only goes for people in that current match withj you. Not with people outside the game, not with people who don't have the game.
So it;s not broadcast it's just ingame.

Secondly there is likely a specific license arrangement made for that.

Not everyone. Only the people who happen to be in the same match you're in, that you happen to be sharing it with.. Itv doesn;t affect people in a different match. It doesn't affect people who aren't playing the game, and it doesn't affect people who don't have the game.

Music on the profile. Would.

People have adblock for a reason. You're asking someone to go to a profile, willingly click on a button, in the hopes that it gets you to buy a game or soundtrack from a developer. What you're describing is literally you PAYING a company to advertise for them.

Then that's even a better idea - make it free and not $10. o_o

Then you're right back at a licensing issue. No company will willingly give Valve a license to their music to use on Steam for free. This idea has come up before and the response is always negative. People who remember Myspace know why this idea died back then. It comes down to either being an annoyance people don't want to deal with, or unprofitable for companies to get involved in so they won't allow it to happen.
