When you have a piece of music the licensing for what you can do with it is very specific. Having license to sell is not the same as license to broadcast
So it's up to developers if they want to allow those tracks to be played in player's profile.
If you look up on video game soundtracks on youtube, it's usually around or less than 100k clicks. If developers can make 100k players * $10 = 1M selling it, they win big. Why keep a digital copy when nobody will buy it from store and listen in game or in youtube instead.
you're safe, you're welcome.
And no, they won't be mp3s, it would be some format that can't be easily downloaded because of copyright issues.
Its not a great feature, music on websites is HATED. Why do you think Myspace died. Why do you think most if not all browsers now include ways to auto stop audio on webpages from playing.
It will not promote games. Screenshots and videos would do a much better job. Personally I turn off in game music when I play.
I very much doubt more then a couple of people will pay 10 bucks for a single song that they can only listen to by coming to their profile. If anything they would buy the soundtrack if its for sale and listen to it on their PCs/Phones/whatevers instead of having to have a net connection and load up a profile....
An example :
https://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/730/Music%20Kit%20%7C%20Denzel%20Curry%2C%20ULTIMATE
This is a soundtrack for in game use, and everyone can hear it. So I was thinking why not sell a game track for profile use. It can be a short rap about the game, it can be a short boss fight BGM. Steam profile soundtracks, a new market for developers to explore. and suggested price $10.
You do not seem to understand the difference between licensing a song so that one person, the person playing the game, can hear the song and dozens to thousands of people hearing the song.... its a different kind of license... one thats FAR more expensive and is monthly.
And I certainly would not want to be annoyed by some 10 second clip that played once or even over and over again....
Yet again, sound on websites has annoyed people so much that browsers come with automatic settings to block audio from playing.
If developers want to sell their in game music for people to listen to, they can already do that. If they want to make a license that allows people to broadcast their music, they can already do that...
The player who visit the profile gets to click and play and listen. That's all : x
They will most probably get bored, so the profile designer can buy new tracks monthly, or even weekly if they are rich.
Yes they are already doing it. Soundtracks available to be purchased on steam.
Steam has a community and people check on each other's profile for showcase. It evolves to a game avatar / background game profile. So what's next can probably be short game tracks.
For example you visit a friend's profile. You get to see a metal gear 30 second soundtrack button. You click it and you like it. You explore metal gear in steam store. Or during a game warm up you visit the profile and just listen to it.
I feel it's a big win for everyone, a next-stage evolve from game profiles where developers design icons and wallpapers. They can design a short track, or release their best track. For $10 each.
Yeah. SLight difference there m8. FIrstly. It only goes for people in that current match withj you. Not with people outside the game, not with people who don't have the game.
So it;s not broadcast it's just ingame.
Secondly there is likely a specific license arrangement made for that.
Not everyone. Only the people who happen to be in the same match you're in, that you happen to be sharing it with.. Itv doesn;t affect people in a different match. It doesn't affect people who aren't playing the game, and it doesn't affect people who don't have the game.
Music on the profile. Would.
