Steam Profile Location for New Zealand

None of New Zealands main cities are included in the Town/City List. In fact the entire list in general is pretty bad. It's been like this for ever pretty much and I think you guys should fix it, at least add the main cities i.e. Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington.

The list of regions for New Zealand seem to be based off this list

of course that list was outdated by 1989 and New Zealand adopted the much more recognisable region names

so yeah if steam could update to that and not some list of provinces from 1966 that would be swell

The list is still ridiculous, and made even worse by missing at least one of the most populous "counties" (Waitemata).

Steam should definitely use the Wikipedia list.

I don't think it's that straight forward.
All towns and cities are listed within the geonames.org location data, but not in steam profile options.

Hmm, well according to this page[www.geonames.org] the data was updated to the correct list in 2006, so Steam must've gotten their list before that and never changed it since.

they bought the data once and never bought it again and probably the mentioning of the service was part of the licensing agreement or they use it as their excuse for outdated data, probably both. and i guess the main reason that this is not updated is because of data migration. many users have entered stuff there that would not be compatible with newer data and Valve is just Valve and shoves up things on the todo pile that no one in the corporation wants to do.

It's 2021 and this list is still incomplete, it doesn't have Canterbury OR Christchurch, yet it has small towns like Hawera and Patea hahaha.

it is not about completion, there is no one adding anything manually and there wont be one doing that.
they will probably change the entire thing ... one day. the challenge is, not to wipe the location for everyone while doing that because that would end up in a spam on whine threads.

i do remember a time when it was actually fine, all the main cities and towns you'd expect to see were there. obviously something happened and it got botched.
