There are many "errors" in the country list. For instance, you can choose Mayotte which is nothing more than a French Department of an overseas territory, but it's listed as a country for display. And then if you're lucky enough to get the correct country, your city most likely won't be listed. And if it is there is a good chance it won't be spelled just the way it is locally.
And then when you consider the simple vanity it represents, you might realize that it isn't that important to begin with. So just leave it blank.
They'll always be errors in a system if it is just widely accepted and not fed back to those who are in a position to improve and fix it.
Where as you see vanity I see a conduit for international guilds, clans and teams to manage time zones and collaboration through accurate location of members through steam. Plus there is nothing wrong with having a little pride in your country but thank you for your input, it was short but pointless.
Just ignore the preset options and type it on your profile instead. You can then go all the way to you street and number if you want
Whatever personal opinion a random stranger has regarding the country drop down selection on a steam profile it does not detract from an improvement to an incorrectly functioning feature on steam.
Analogy:
Steam - Here's a vehicle to drive.
Me - I can't select 3rd gear.
Random A - Lots of gears are missing, you don't need 3rd gear to drive the vehicle.
Random B - You're driving by yourself, just pretend to make the engine noises for 3rd gear.
Me - I just want the vehicle to work properly, fix it please or remove the vehicle from use.
Because its a public forum and some people have an opinion. I myself in the UK, Britain/England if you prefer.
Point remains you can just add the correct/preferred data on your profile.
Just so you know you can skip gears when both accelerating and accelerating in a vehicle. Doesn't need a broken gearbox to do that either.
It's not broken. It may not have the thing you want but it's not broken so nothing to fix.
You should also note I haven't said anything against your suggestion. I merely asked a question which you did answer so I understand you don't have a private profile to all. Fair enough.
Even if Valve would add Wales as an option that would be in Valve time which is.........slow. Thus I provided an option to allow you to do what you want now.
Thank you for your suggestion but I'm obviously aware I can write my country in the free text field, you know full well that is not the intent of this thread. I'm not put off by Valve / Steam being slow to implement a fix. It has to begin somewhere.
Valve / Steam, I'm sure you can allocate five minutes to implement this please.
will take weeks, if they even bother. it is not like you raised a new issue here. the data used is a decade old and newer data from the same source is incompatible.
Steam / Valve please add Wales.
Hhehehehe
That was 15 some years ago, and they haven't bothered to get an updated list since.
I see you have Canada selected as your country. Remind me who your head of state is again?
Suppose the alternative is to champion all countries with the English monarchy as head of state under the umbrella of United Kingdom and delete those countries as options in the menu. - Note: this is sarcasm.
Must say, Fluxtorrent has a really trippy visual for profile. Like the colours etc., quite cool!
