FEATURE REQUEST: Automatic invite to Discord server defined by game publisher after purchase of respective game
Lets say that publisher P has a Discord server. P wants to only grant purchasers of game access to the server. This is very difficult on P side; however, Steam could make this possible by doing this automatically on their side.

This would be great for big games, and people could show of the rate of their support (dependent on business model of game).

EDIT:
Obviously this is optional for both sides. You submit your Discord only if you want to. No spam, you only get to know that if you should choose to, there is a way to provide your Discord ID and get an invite. Wouldn't it be nice to have an exclusive group for those who have purchased the game, or get a role on the server stating what version of the game you have etc.

Yeah no, i'll pass on automatic invites to discord servers just because I own a game.......

What is Discord and why should I want to join it?

Devs can simply slap a 'Join our Discord' button on the menu screen

No thank you, I don't want discord spam as its something I don't use specially not just because I own a game.

Also Discord has nothing to do with Steam & as far as I know are actually a competitor cause they have a store that sells games.

If the game devs want to advertise it, they can do so in a pinned thread in their game hub. Some already do.

I'm wondering the same thing... I also don't want alerts about it either.

Discord doesn't sell games anymore. No spam, just opt-in, similar to that in Patreon.

This is for devs that want to grant exclusive access to only those who have been verified to have purchased the game.

Invites in Steam to a separate service should never be an option to turn on.

There are already shady game devs and game devs that left their partner webapi key in the game code, which was used to update itemdefs and create thousands of items with violent images. And that would only be the beginning.

:qr:
No thanks, devs can add a button to the menu screen of their game or make a pinned thread with it. They can have a bot on their channel that can check one's Steam account for the game and then invite them to a private channel.

I think an invite to Discord server is the least of your concern if this was to happen.

How would the bot check this? The verification needs to go via the backend of Steam otherwise it can be hacked. Rule of thumb: Anything that is frontend can be manipulated, and not backend.

The only way to this right is with help from Steam.

The short version, it can lead to abuse but not from our end.

The game dev can already verify ownership through their own dev tools.

Just take a step back and ask yourself: why Discord? What makes it special? Why not automatically follow them on Twitter, friend on Facebook, Subscribe to their YouTube account, ... short: add you to all their social media. Also, subscribe to their newsletter. Steam already has your email, so why not?
