A way to hide game activity for specific games
Pretty sure nobody wants to know about me playing Sakura games or Kagura games or hunnie pop at 2 am on a saturday while crying in a corner
being able to hide me owning and playing certain games would be useful

then steam can brag about another half billion account thats not here on dayli login.

And a second account achieves exactly that. It's also not suspectible to any ♥♥♥♥-ups or oversights. Either by Steam or yourself.

Set your library to private before launching.

Everyone is at home, bored and some are also lonely. Don't be afraid to show your love for Hunnie Pop.

What's quarantine?
Tell me about it. Even without lockdown, I'm essentially stuck at home except for one period in the summer.

Welcome to my world I guess.

I meant pretty much my work behaves as if there is none.
Oh the other extreme. Well that sucks for you. Stay safe.

I removed my replies; not sure how the moderators would take it. Too many unknowns, especially when it's off topic and has to do with staying safe from illness.

That's exactly why they will never do anything. I'm willing to bet at least half the accounts registered on steam are either alt or bot accounts. Not that Valve would ever admit that

Depends on the context frankly.

I'm quite sure if they're putting out some marketing or something, they'll likely embellish or ignore such things.

BUt if they're adivisng from another point of view (say security) then they have been pretty straight up in the past.

Agree. The alternative to a reporting toggle function for a specific game, is to remove ourselves from all friend lists because of that one game.

Still there should be no need to show your love for Hunnie Pop (or whatever other game) unless one wants to.
Steam has a long way to go in regards privacy options and most of their privacy settings are from an age when there wasn't as many titles and as varied as they're now.

It wasn't even conceived the fact one could get Adult Only titles back when Steam put the foundations of their community profiles and privacy was an all-or-nothing setting... They've taken steps to improve, but still they're baby steps.

OTOH Steam suffers from trying to be a 'social site' linked to an actual store. And in that regard, visibility to what people are playing and buying is a big factor. It's a clash of interests (which IMO it should be focused towards the user needs)

Couldn't agree more, Tito.

I can take or leave social media - as ever it either does what I want or I'm not interested. And what social media has amplified is that of what the internet as a whole is - a blessing and a curse both.

So when Valve do this chasing, I can kind of understand it, but I feel yet again they are getting in water not only they are unprepared for, but those that ARE the main actors in social media aren't even up to the job either.

Even beyond nsfw or nsfw-adjacent titles such a feature to me is vital for steam as an all-encompassing platform as opposed to simply a DRM program. Games, tools, software, and non-Steam programs all show activity on your profile in some way.

Making a Skyrim mod? People can see that. Running a dedicated server? People can see that. Recording a game? People can see that. Launching another DRM platform so you can use some of Steam's features on a game you don't own on Steam? People can see that. In my mind it isn't even simply privacy but also a way to streamline, declutter, and clarify what we DO want to show our friends and other people who can see our profiles.

I have yet to hear a compelling reason such a feature should not be implemented.

Well put.

I try hard not to force my opinion on others, but I've been lucky, being old, to have done some more unusual jobs in my life. From running my own DJ business back in the day, to learning music production, setting up call centres, politics and so on. From all of these I found out and was continually amazed by how some people want to see odd aspects about me.

For example, the DJing thing. We're obviously talking about a time when even mobile phones were expensive niche things, the 80s. So no social media or net. My advertising was mostly word of mouth as I always had more work than I could cope with. But I did bung up the occasional advert with a few business cards to throw around.

When I was doing a particular type of gigI would scribble or amend my running order beforehand., to accommodate new music I'd bought. Weddings would get a different gig than say a nightclub (how I hated doing weddings!)

So I'd continually work in downtime refining and tweaking mixes, changing running orders to get a certain "feel" going or catering to a certain person that was walking through the door. I was rather anal about it, but it worked.

The upshot of this is that I'd mention to people "yeah I was working tonight on doing a new mix to work into the order" and people would ALWAYS bug me for those mixes. Either for copies (which I generally would not do for obvious reasons), or just the physical running order itself. Always mystified me.

So yeah, I can completely understand why having all these things available is giving a great options to those that might be interested in it, even if I see no value in it.

As someone invited me to do so, I'm joining.

Dear Friends,

Sometimes, the world has to know I'm playing Valheim, and the default "playing: Valheim" status on my profil is top notch.
And sometimes, the world may not care about me playing Crush Crush. Why so? Erm.. personnal business.

Or the opposite: I'm unsure the world has to know I'm playing a solo-local-closed-nonfriendly Valheim map, thus I prefer the world to think I'm actually idleing on Crush Crush instead. Sort of.

In a nutshell: Is it possible to mark games as invisible status-wise? (Without going Invisible or Offline, nor setting my "Game detail" as private: I don't want to stay away from my Steam Contacts ~simply having a little privacy island for some activities.)

Thanks!
