it is not a crime to be using 2 clients / 2 storefronts.
EDIT: not only that you are given over 3000 f2p titles to play on steam but developers/publishers giveaway their games on steam. it happens quite a lot. they may not be 60 dollar games but they are given away on steam by the developers/publishers themselves with the help of valve. (many of the epic store giveaways have already been given away on steam.)
epic does not come remotely close to the amount of games given away on the epic store vs the steam store.
(just saying.)
I made it clear, the OP shouldn't feel "loyal" to a store front or client. the OP should be purchasing and using the store front and client the OP believes is best for the OP and if that is both then that is both.
nobody is preventing the OP from using both clients.. this false narrative that one has to use either one or the other is getting old.
If you want cheaper than steam while still getting keys, you have many good legit choices approved by steam (or at least not denied by them) by heading to IsThereAnyDeal. Steam offers good deals, too. All of these are enough to keep me here and away from Epic.
Buggy games are buggy on every platform and/or store they are released. Valve isn't going to fix the problems of other companies' games. And frankly, when people say 'quality control', they always mean is 'only stock what I want'. Steam is a store for everyone, not a charity for the elite.
Unity doesn't make a game trash. Many good games also use Unity.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unity_games
Every game engine has developers who use it to produce trash. That is on the game's developer though, not the engine they use.
Don't know about your currency, but base prices between Steam and Epic are the same in USD. Developers also set their prices on Steam. I am not sure how it works on the Epic store.
The more game Epic gets, the more likely you are to run into "buggy" games as well.
In the end, buy games where you want and/or where you find them cheaper. Let the stores worry about how they want to compete. They will do what they feel is best for them.
Exactly. Even Origin has to stop with the free games eventually and even came back to Steam.
Eventually the pool used for them drys up and often the users with it.
during big events (famously known as the coal farm event.) and other events, those were if i am not mistaken without the devs/pubs permission but i i could be wrong.
valve does in partnership when developers/publishers wishes to giveaway their game work to achieve that. you would have seen those game as no cost, these are games that are normally pay to keep but now free to claim within a period of time and keep permanently.
no costs:
https://steamdb.info/search/?a=sub_keynames&keyname=1&operator=3&keyvalue=0
here is a link to get you started on learning about that.
(Steam has to be the easiest way to access a lot of games without actually having to buy any games. there are games given away by devs all the time, not only that to reiterate there are so many f2p games as well.. so you don't even need to spend money to be able to enjoy some good decent free games on steam.)
but to sum it up:
there is nothing wrong with giving away games. you however are not entitled to them. if a store front has to throw other games at you before you want to purchase something you don't own on their store. then perhaps they might need to revise their business strategy.
EDIT: i personally would never had played fortnite, since i don't like third party shooters, and i mostly end up sticking with cs as my fps game. since my nephews played fortnite, i just went with the flow and installed epic game launcher, i have claimed more or less all the free giveaway games, and i haven't even spent a dime besides buying the battle pass in fortnite.
you can be on both clients and store fronts.(do i enjoy fortnite, not really.)

EPIC only offered free games (which were not really free since they paid for them) to bring over most users, sure many people got the games free but overall it has not helped them at all, and most importantly it will not last forever.
The battle is on community and platform. Steam introduced player profile and recently the reward system to try stay ahead of competition. I feel the direction is good but a lot more can be done.
Everything between the copious Steam Labs experiments and the Steam Awards.
Not everybody is going to be able to make use of all of them at the end of the day but I still think it is a good approach because they have clearly shown that they have a flare for innovating with AI or VR or any means of users sharing game experiences with each other.
I think they are the right company to push for it, like the brain interfacing tidbit, with the copious resources that they have.
rock side to side on this ship at see choosing between
free games and history and free games and loyalty and
free games and everything else...... but when we hit land
we will find not much has changed... is that a free game
that i probably wont play... and where is the best place
to get my game fix... is that another free game i wont
play... and where is a community i can be part of...
oh.. is that another free game.. dont even like
that one.. but its free.. oh what a whale of a time... moby...
Epic offer cheaper?
The Outer Worlds - Epic £49.99 - Steam £49.99
Remnant: From the Ashes - Epic £31.99 - Steam £30.99
Humankind Deluxe - Epic £39.83 - Steam £39.83
The Medium - Epic £35.99 - Steam £35.99
Ubisoft are currently holding a sale on the Epic store because they set the prices and decide when to put products on sale as they also do when using the Steam platform.
As for free games on Epic there is only one advantage and it is this:
Civ 6 and Remnant: From the Ashes. I just downloaded them when they were available for free and then realised after playing them for a short time I did not want to play either, uninstalled and forget them and it cost nothing to do that. That is exactly how I personally use Epic.
And one final point when an Epic exclusive comes to Steam it has had a period of fixing bugs, etc and is half price.
So what now is the advantage of using Epic over Steam? None.
