Blocking is so you don't see anything from that person, not necessarily the other way around. It works as intended as I recently had someone be completely rude on a post I made 2 times, so I reported and blocked them.
You shouldn't be able to hide from the world, and you never will be able to. Making profile private, or friends only, works well.
Username change history is so you can track the good and bad people you run into. I like it as it helps me keep track of friends I don't talk to often.
Reason you can't delete history is for harassment and other questionable things.
Either you want public access, friend access, or private access. It's exactly that, a wall. Everyone can see it, but only people you want to come in, are allowed.
Who visited me doesn't matter, if I have anything up it's because I allow others to see it, otherwise I'd delete it.
I like Steams security. One of the first ones I remember having 2FA.
Hmm. you can already do this to a defgree. If you block a user you won't see their posts in a forum thread. You will still see when they are quoted by others thoughh, and when they quoted.
Again...this is already addressed by setting your profile friends only or private.
You can already erase it, though people will still be able to suss you out fairlty easily since it will update any post you made.
Never gonna happen. Since that affects someone else's communication history. You're free to clear it on yourside but you don't get to clear what's on someone else's screen.
Friends-Only.
Eh. Possible, YThough really don't think Steam will be pandering to that kind of egho stroking. Though they might make it a point shop unlockable.
Why not? Public means Public m8.
Blocking works fine, what you suggest would never be implemented because someone you blocked could just sign out of steam or use an alternate account to view your profile so that would be pointless
Steam is a gaming community platform and they WANT their sites, forums, etc from showing up in searches.
Absolutely nothing to do with with privacy and would piss off a lot of people if they want to change their name
Steam already complies with privacy requests, and if there is ever an issue where sensitive information was sent out in that rare case you can file a ticket for it to be done. Would be far more likely this feature would be used ot piss people off by getting their account hijacked and having all their DM's cleared then it would be used to help people.
That is contradictory. You cant have all people sending a message on it and hide it if you aren't friends with the user.

This is not facebook
Tell me which gaming sites have these features because i know
Epic
Sony
Microsoft
Humble Bundle
GoG
GMG
Battlenet
Uplay
EA
Origin
Bethesda
etc
Do not have any of what you are suggesting. So the claim that most other sites have it is complete BS.
As demonstrated by the users above me, most of what you want exists or can be done to certain degrees. So the question is, why the strange title claim?
I always love when someone comes in, posts a list of demands and claims most other sites do it, and then refuse to say what other sites actually do it, or give a list of sites that aren't remotely related to what steam does.
Its like saying the NSA's website does something differently then Steam.....
-You can change your username, clear your previous username history
-You can make your profile Private
-Make a custom url
If you change all of those in a short period of time, you're unlikely going to be recognized, especially if they have a large friends list.
Edit: Maybe if you're being stalked, don't put your personal identifiers for Discord, Switch, Xbox, Epic, vrchat, twitch on your Public Profile?
Again they can simply log out of steam and then view your profile. If you have it set to friends only then that solves the issue.
They cannot if you have it set to friends only
You should remove everything from your profile that a bot could try to match 1:1 with, this includes the specs, all the places you use & your usernames, etc.
This is a classic case of "privacy is a choice at the hands of the user"
Discord has nothing to do with Steam. I just updated my profile to friends only - https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197963666602/
As you can see only friends are now able to see any content on it. That takes care of stalkers.
Then they just make a new account or log into an alt account. Again if your worried about someone stalking you something so trivial isn't going to stop them and making your account friends only prevents them from seeing it, interacting on it, and doing anything that you will notice.
As pointed out your spreading all your contact info on a public profile
again, accounts are free.
while you could tell robots not to index certain pages with a few methods, you would also run nofollow in general on all pages that could include your profile link .. and from there is goes bonkers.
suggestion, you dont like your profile in search results outside of Steam, DMCA it.
you can manually clear it, on a cooldown. scam protection.
it is also persona/profile name. the actual username is not public.
?!
chat is saved on server-side for 2 weeks. that is the status quo. you want that to be removable by yourself for both involved parties ...but you also want an archive "in the event of a scammed account or other violation"
1st issue:
if you write me a message via steam chat, my copy is not your copy, it is my copy. you do not simply delete MY data.
2nd issue:
you either save data or you dont. that archive would have to be accessible the same way the 2 weeks have to be accessible at the moment, gdpr, woohoo.
lemme get that straight.
you want a setting that does:
1) all users that are not your friends can comment on your profile
2) hide the profile comments sections from all users that are not your friends.
great, really ..... please organize your thoughts.
again, Steam accounts are free.
Like seriously, How?
Set your profile friends only and only friends will be able to see and post.
Firends Only.
Anyone could check your profile, random forum users, bots, people looking for inventories to trade with. Anyone. Especially when your profile is Public. Being able to see who visited you, and thinking it's an "alt" of someone 'stalking' you, would open you up to harassing someone else.
If your profile is Private, people can only see your avatar and username, nothing else. Yours is currently a Public Profile so anyone can see anything you have on it.
You choosing to not have privacy and then complaining about it, is entirely on you.
Public, Friends-Only (aka the inbetween), Private. Pick one.
If you're being stalked, unrelated life stories and telling people what you are doing at any moment on steam or twitter isn't a good idea... got nothing to do with the thread, either.
Or it could just be a bot, scammer, new person, etc. A fresh account does not equate to an alt of someone stalking you. Simply, you don't know, which is why they're not going to allow you to see who visited your profile, because people make assumptions in bad faith.
i am all for more options but, nothing you proposed would stop someone from stalking you
it is easy to have more than one account. it is easy to have more than one web client open at once with several accounts open, if they wanted to. we would have to take from your posts that they will do these things, because they are stalking you. your best bet is to just keep records of any trouble they give you and then report them.
i will say that i agree with this
Stop using the community then.
There's no way to control that sort of thing on forums since as said you will see the posts of other people quoting them.
As for them not being able to see you. That's overstepping your bounds. Its well and good that you blid fold yourself, butt to demand other people wear blindfolds for you.. yeah. Just stop using the community features and set your profile to priovate. Your problems will be solved
Or you ca 'Do an Adult'.
Which will solve your problems as well.
