[SUGGESTION] Search by Game Engine : Steam
PROBLEM
I tried looking for games by game engine e.g. Godot. I couldn't find anything. I realised that games weren't even tagged with #godot3, #lumberyard, #unreal4

SUGGESTION
Add a filter by game engine. At the very least, add tags, so we can search for them by tags.

Last time you wanted the game engine on the store, now you want it to be searchable and its going to be the same answer you got last time.

The type of engine the game uses means nothing to at my guess 99.9999% of the people who play games on steam because most of them don't even know what a game engine is.

I know what a game engine is and generally I don't care what engine a game uses as long as I enjoy the game. Yes some are better than others, but I've seen some games built on a good engine and the game sucks.

So ya there is no need for this. If you really really want to know, use google. You might be able to find out.

Tags are user defined so people are free to tag games as they wish

and they still have to be moderated into the system but that does in general not happen to tags that are not content descriptive or relevant to a customer .. which the engine isn't.

Which engine it is seems relevant to me.

Oh well.

I'm not sure if anyone actually polled a sample size.

I know that certain game engines favour certain languages e.g. C#, C++

There's actually a difference in the quality of the game based on language.

No there isnt ffs

Game engines are tools. And just like all tools they have pros and cons. Using a particular tool has literally zero correlation to 'quality'

You can make great games using nothing but RPG Maker, Godot, GameMaker etc

You can make terrible games in C# using Unity, Unreal 5, Lumberyard, Crytek, etc

Not really, some engines do things better then others but every engine has its share of trade offs. The difference in quality is all up to the people designing the game.

No there isn't a difference in the quality of the game based on the language its written in. The quality is based on the skill of the programmers making the game.

I've seen good games built on bad engines, I've seen bad games built on good engines. It all depends on the skills of the programmers and what the game engine was designed to do.

Course I've seen game engines that weren't designed to do something programmed to do that. Diesel engine for example, not designed to have driveable cars in it, well Payday 2 has 1 or 2 maps with driveable cars in them. Its not great, but the skill of the programmer was able to over come the limit of the engine.

Again the game engine does not make or break a game. The kind of programming language a game engine uses does not make or break a game. The skill of the programmers using the engine are what makes or breaks a game.

The Fallout 3 "Train Hat" still is my favorite "look it doesnt matter how you get this to work, as long as the player thinks it works"

I don't think a significant number of users have opinions about the languages used in their games, or the engines. And I think ultimately that drives the demand for the filter you're requesting.

This. I cannot think of a single time were I was like "O.M.G. THIS GAME USES THE UNREAL ENGINE?!" because it just doesnt matter.

Now for languages, that makes sense, because hat directly is tied to your ability to play the game you bought.

there isn't and the language itself is just personal preference ...
there are people that can rebuild entire games in the dumbest languages you can imagine.

i've played doom that was written in pikachu and it ran on an apple lisa.

again .. a game that came out 93 ran on a computer that came out 83 written in a joke eso language that consists of the words "pi" "pika" and last but not least "pikachu".

it does not matter which language. one thing that matters is the compiler, because thats the only thing the computer actually cares about, code he can actually work with, which is not c++ or c sharp or pika pi ... pikachu.

I would enjoy the search to be extremely detailed. Almost like a wiki page but for every game. But I can't see it be more than a "fun little thing" for some people in some situations but I can't say that that alone shouldn't make it be a possibility. Maybe one day? :P
