Would work wonders for the support staff having to clean that mess up too.
Or just use the non-Steam game trick and make it show you are in game "out to lunch."
If you're away you're away. Doesn't matter why you're away only that you're away. What is the obsession with letting others know what you are doing 100% of the time.
Custom = it'll get exploited so no.
The only thing there that is reasonable is a looking to play option and assign the games. That way if you don't want to play GameA friends won't keep inviting you to play them
There was no intention at all to allow links in these.
Referal codes are not a big deal by itself, I don't get your problem there.
Well your opinion, but it was actually 2 ideas in one text.
It won't.
It WILL be misused by scammers and trolls/edgelords/idiots.
What's better than having a custom status like "using Steam™ Item Checker®" or "now using: Steam Account Ban Tool" or something similar.
And common sense is to not give scammers even more tools to fool victims when there is at least one thread per day about someone getting scammed on the forums. And who knows how many people didn't even bother to complain.
I am for the idea because I've liked how it was used back in the day of other platforms that used it like Xfire (aware that things change and there were no scams then at least on Xfire). It would be nice to type in what you are doing in games like farming, leveling, ranking up in games, or whatever (I like how any game can use this type of feature already in games but would like to see more use it).
Example: Path of Exile I see a friend playing the class, level, and area in the game he's in).
But there are so many disadvantages to having this feature when it comes to scams, phishing links (but we could not allow those at all), and just misuse of the feature. As much as I agree that it's one more thing that scammers can use they can already add in a custom game to Steam and would be no more different than that feature and it's available to everyone already.
Thanks for your answers, I thought so too.
I compeltly agree, even though there's already kinda like a feature wich shows you things like "In Lobby x/4" or something like "roaming the wasteland" this would be a nice implementation.
I personally thought of forbidding links as a whole like “www.phishing-site.com" or even parts of links like protocols i.e. "http", subdomains i.e. "www" or domain extensions i.e. ".com".
This would leave people with such garbage that it would be very unlikely to use. I'm also taking into account that formating wouldn't be allowed as such a status.
To the last part: Forbidding the editing of a custom status on non-steam games in any case?
Sounds like I would be naming all the restrictions in theory. 😅
op suggestion is a matter of taste: an option, not an obligation. i think people should be free to share whatever they like, and also if they want to use a feature like that to make puns or jokes.
some people dont like that, like you: you could avoid using the feature, rather than downplaying those who like it. you dislike people who use it? ignore them and dont interact.
someone is using that feature to comment nasty stuff? users could easily report it with the same ease they do other features of steam profiles.
There is a difference between adding new tools and having something removed.
The profile is also not used to build up pressure. They are just impersonating others most of the time. There is also some use to these profile features.
An option here would be to make it bound to certain level, that would increase steam market income probably and also make it harder for people to fake profiles and exploit this feature.
