Profanity filter - "Whitey"

Hi all,

I've been recommended by a ticket with Valve support to post this here. Due to recent changes, it appears games such as CS:GO, DOTA and Destiny 2 are now showing my name as "eQ ******" instead of "eQ Whitey".

Whilst I'm sure the intentions with this are good, my surname in real life is "White". This is an incredibly common surname in western countries, and - as such - Whitey is an incredibly common nickname.

Unfortunately Valve support are unable to modify the words in the filter, so it would be great if the developers reading this could look into this issue, as it will impact my own and others ability to enjoyably interact with other members of the community as I've done for the last 16 years using this name on steam.

Filters cannot determine intent.

Change your English "e" to "e" from another language. К примеру, <-- use russian. That should bypass auto censorship for now.

At least that worked for me in the past.

Regarding that blog entry if users can opt into slurs and profanity wouldn't that mean Steam would have to remove their rules?

That is if it's going to be spread outside of Chat (in-game and out) at its time seems like its only for chat and not yet in the other more public places

Steam is not being racist, you can say you are "white", they are trying to be fair and NOT-racist by censoring insults against black people AND insults against white people.

You being "offended" that you can't be called a white-targeted racial slur is very silly. i also know you are arguing in bad faith. You aren't REALLY offended you can't be called "whitey" right now in some game. You're just being silly.
