If this is added, it needs to optional and off by default.
If you want people in your area to play with you, post in the games discussion area asking for people from your area to join you.

This feature would be optional.
Games disscusion do not work. This is a rudimentary method: Most discussions are in English (which excludes many players from other languages) and is not practical enough, fast and up to date.
Please evolve, don't be fearful and conformist.

No one told you to attempt to implement the option in all your games — perhaps start with multiplayer games you actively enjoy, currently.
When Valve introduced quick matches in CSGO and TF2 they obliterated the social side of gaming.
you have an example of what you request, working, under the best possible conditions.
suggestion: download and install csgo, see how well it works.
With community run servers it’s all about the regulars getting to know one another.
That doesn’t happen with ‘lobbies’ does it ... its randoms in every game?
