We need a way to tell if a game is dead
Steam has been around for a while and so there are games that have been around for a while. The problem with those games is that some of them have a dead community or maybe even no online servers. I would find it frustrating to buy a game I have been very interested in to be disappointed that there is no one around to play with. So my proposition is that if Steam would be able to tell us - in any way- if this game still has an active community. We can find this out through maybe average player count per month or maybe if members from the community can say if there are still people playing etc.

Please give this some thought.

Then go to the community of these games and see if people are ingame and check from Google you can find info on games from plenty of sites and about servers.

They already have this overview:
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/?

To check out how many active online players a game has atm you can use the SteamCharts:
CS GO:
http://steamcharts.com/app/730
TF2:
http://steamcharts.com/app/440
etc. etc. etc.

community hub => forums

Try godus, idle civilizations or soul loctus. lots of warnings in those forums for the state of the game.

How come I have to wade through 3rd party sites or a site valve doesn't even mention on the front page of Steam or maybe somewhere near the a game's store page?

I'm asking for a direct and upfront overview of a product I might wish to buy by using a method that is benificial to the steam platform and its users. I don't see that right now on the steam store page.

PS:I appreciate the efforts but Steam still could use this improvement.

Most (all?) of that data is incorportated into the store page if you view Steam via your browser with the Enhanced Steam add-on.

There's a magical thing called the Internet

because Valve is in real position to wade through 10 000 games and tell one by one if they are dead

lmgtfy is rather pathetic. I guess it's perfect for its target audience though.

With that approach we could as well delete all the information from store pages (including screenshots and gameplay videos) since, well, you got the magic internet where you can find all the info.

If {LINK REMOVED} can get that info from Steam,
then Valve can.

playerbase is meaningless though for instance with singleplayer games

its also meaningless with games where there are third party methods such as gameranger to get the online part working

Dead is a very interesting term. I mean The Flock is dead. But at the same time someone could call unreal tournament Dead...

For most games it's not hard to find some online community of die hards.

No it's dead. Devs basically canned it, shut down the trackings erver and everything.
The death count will never change and no new content is being added.

It might resurect some day but there's limited interest in that.

Sad too, i wanted to see how the whole thing played ouyt. Basically the problem was the maps were repetitive and worse the death counter was set far too high.

Well they don't have to. As I said "in any way" it could be automated since they have the information on their databases or ask the players of a given game and ask them something along the lines of "is this game's community active?"
