Login with nick and/or email instead of account_name
I don't like my account_name.
I won't see it anymore.
I can't change it.
I can't login with my current nick
I can't login with my email
I can't transfer my games to a new account
Sharing Library will not solve the problem.

I am a bit sad that i am forced to use an "account name" that I left YEARS ago and I don't like to see. Aside of that, many (most of them) systems or websites does save the ID, and nick and username are changeable with some rules, and sometimes only once a month or even, a year.

Steam doesn't let you change user_account and doesn't let you login with other data to make the user_account (even if not deleted) not fully visible.

I do understand that changing user_account will not happend, but I would love one of those:
1) Login with current nick
2) Login with email

A plus, to remove the account_name shown in the upper-right user menu, and show instead the nick or the email.

Best regards.

The name in the upper right is no longer the username, it's now the nickname.

I agree with this, wish I could login with email instead of account name. That or at least let me change my account name I made 10 years ago and hate now.. Not that it matters, nobody can see it, but still.

I’d rather not let anyone who can discover my associated email or view my alias attempt to sign into my account.

So you think that your user_account is somewhat more secure than login with email or even with 2FA?

As you may know, when you login with other Computer/Browser you must check your email to be able to login. Using your Nick and checking with email would be a good combo.

If you fear about your email, be aware that your user_account is in there. So, there's not point to say that using anything "that has to be confirmed by email" is more secure than anything other.

Anyway, thank you for let me know your opinion.

This is my exact case, i HATE to see part of my account_name. If i where able to migrate games i would delete it NOW. And if i didn't spent more than 20€ i will delete it too.

This is not totally true. On website it's the user_account.
Ingame, the main item is nickname, but if you expand it, the logout shows the account_name.

The idea is to get it out, hidden as much as possible, like the ID.

If regret the name you choose then perhaps choose a more suiting one for your next account

1)nick (persona name) is not an identifier and not unique. everyone can have the same nick as you. this makes it impossible to use for login.
2) same, you can have multiple accounts with the same contact email. so this is also not a unique identifier.

True and true. Nickname login will not work at all.

Nice point. But the problem is already present, and no matter what you choose you can end hating it except if you choose something like 039434934. Maybe i should call me like an ID and change my Nick later.

+1

True and true. Nickname login will not work at all.

Of couse i am not talking about the present things. The present things doesn't let me to do that, and that's the reason to be of this thread. So:

1) Nick is not unique. Understood. The real thing here is that user_account is a "nick" itself instead of an ID.

2) Understood, but you could have same emails in both accounts, but just be able to login each account on each email. I don't see the problem.

Again, the real problem is that the user_account is useless being used as a Nick. There are many services on wich you just login using an ID like "DFDFSD234" or whatever.

I am sure that the people who created the user_account many years ago did not think so much about that. The same way, I didn't think so much when i created the account.

Im not blaming, just asking for a change.

Regards.

Steam should be improved by letting people change their login name.

It's already been said repeatedly over and over. You will NEVER be able to change your login name. It was a mistake and its too dangerous to fix for such little benefit.

I mean at most you ever login to steam 1-2 a year, usually less then that. So no biggie
