Request to hide purchased Adult Only games in all forms.
Since the integration of adult only content games a few months back, I've been noticing a lot of people asking for a feature to hide their adult only game activity, and I feel it's really a necessity going forward. This feature would have to hide all forms of activity including it's purchase, playtime, achievements, trading cards, badges, wishlist, market activity, listing in your library and possibly more from anyone viewing it that is not logged into your account. Whether it be casual browsing, from your friends list or via family share.

On threads asking for a feature like this, the common solution I've seen is that the only thing you can do is create a separate account. It's not the worst solution, but not ideal. I can see many people simply passing up buying AO games than go through the trouble or risk exposure.

Another trend I've seen is for people calling for you to do it anyway and not care for consequences, but in many social situations those consequences can be very, very real and serious. Like accidentally exposing minors to sexual content, ostracization or even violence. And there are many cultural aspects that have to be considered in areas outside of the United States.

Thank you for reading and sorry for getting a bit wordy/preachy.

I'm not too sure. I definitely see where you're coming from but I can't help shake of the feeling that you get what you pay for. Games on Steam are usually very generously priced (in my opinion anyway, I'm very excited about my (small) library) but there's obviously another side to that 'medal'.

One being the requirement to be online and play through the Steam client, but the other would be to participate in the "Steam community" which includes sharing your gaming activities. In a way you're part of the product ;)

So if they would consider including this then I think it would be fair if it were a paid service.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that's the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Privacy should be free.

Either set your games to private or use another profile for your adult games. I don't understand this bigottery. "I wanna play this but I don't want anybody to find out ..."

Why shouldn't we be allowed to keep certain games secret from our friends? What harm does it do to anyone? I don't understand why anyone would be against the implementation of this feature.

Not against I just think it's a waste of time and resources to implement. Considering almost everyone you ask, if they're honest, has watched porn at some point having such games on a persons account would hardly be suprising.

If a user doesn't want it visible for what ever reason use a different account. Just hiding them on the currect account could still lead to them being seen by others accidentally.

1. Steam update accidently reverts a setting making them visible.
2. Bug in a Steam update makes them visible.
3. Family share makes them visible.....maybe due to a bug or maybe because they are visible in a persons library.
4. Someone using a users computer finds the files in their Steam library Folder.
5. Visitor pops round and can see the games clearly visible in the users library while they chat because the User forgets to hide them.

Sure theres other risks.

Having a seperate account allows games to be stored in a seperate Steam folder so no risks of accidental exposure from Game sharing, shared download locations and stuff. No risk of bugs making them public in anyway.

Even if they could hide it people wouldn't want their porn accounts or history linked to their social media accounts. So don't link these sorts of games to a users main account. Yes it's not porn but it's the same concept. Some things you want seperate and kept away from others for whatever reasons. Best way to do that is to use a seperate account to ensure they remain seperate.

I will just buy them somewhere else if Steam refuses to respect my privacy without me having to jump through hoops I'll just buy them elsewhere whenever possible or not at all from steam.

On a related note, I've found at least 1 game (planetside 2) which grants full access to your steam profile if set to (public) to the devs and anyone they want to sell it to (indefinite access).

So if one game is doing this, there's probably others. If you haven't already set your profile to private, you probably should.

i despise how everyone here is talking porn games, like those are what adult exclusive games are by nature huh, Like jesus christ what about fear and hunger 1 and 2, why did steam put in the same store preference as a hentai title , just cause it has vulgar content doesn't mean it's some trash porn game for nerds. this is why indies get treated poorly on this platform, no one from valve ever listens or even bother caring about wide variety of content that is straight up not for children but is also not in the same preference as the filth littering this store.

Why even care? :p

Perhaps my generation was correct after all. Just don't give a flying ♥♥♥♥ about what others think!

If you must hide these types of games, then there is a bigger problem at hand such as sociopathy.

What the heck are you even talking about?!?

Adult Only is never for non-sexual things.
It makes no sense to claim otherwise.
Ever.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
