A way to share a game you have as a trial with friends
Often I find a great game and have a blast and wish I could show my friends how much fun it is. It would be really cool if we had the ability to say share the game with them for say 1-2 hours for them to try it out.

Then if they like it they can buy the game and keep playing.

Use the broadcasting feature to share a game with friends. They don't need to play, they can figure out if they like it or not just by watching. Also, there's a thing called Youtube where you can try games for free.

Watching someone else and doing it yourself isn't really the same thing. Everyone plays differently and does things in their own way so its not really a good substitute. What's easy to me is hard to someone else, and my playstyle isn't always the same as those of others.

Have you thought about the idea that people will start creating fake accounts just to try games for free ? Have you though the ways your idea could be abused ? How do you get a playstyle in 1-2 hours ?

Sure. It would be easy enough to limit how often a game can be shared in a period of time. I can't really imagine people creating fake accounts to play the first hour of a game over and over.

It's certainly far less abusable then the steam sharing that exists with people in a "household".

Also your playstyle is instant. Say Call of Duty for instance. Some people prefer assault, medic, sniper roles, etc. Watching someone play a medic, when I like to play as a sniper is useless and doesn't show how the game would be fun for me.

Playstyle is a living thing and is subject to change, your style may not be competive enough so you change it or perhaps you try out some new role and enjoy it more.

It may be instant but it certainly is not permanent.

On the otherhand little research goes a long way. Using myself as a basis, videos are enough to decide whether I like the game or not. If gameplay has issues... well either work it out or refund.

+1

Just ignore all that people who like to trash ideas just for fun, like if they where paid for it.

Watching a video is not enough in my opinion.

Isn't that what Family sharing allows you to do?

In order to use family sharing you have to login with your account in your friend's PC. Maybe you can achieve the same, but is not too practical.

The most practical solution is for your friends to just purchase the game with their own dosh, play it for less than 2 hours then return it.

I think the most practical solution is that Valve implement an ad hoc solution. Let them to evaluate.

How is that practical for Valve? The only idfference really is that at no point does the friend have to offer any token of 'intent to purchase'.

I don't know. Maybe we should wait for they to evaluate? Or are you a Valve's representative?

Valve has no contractual permission for this requested "time-limited piracy" and the developer of each product is free to upload a demo of any kind for his product.

Really? And why family sharing is even possible then? I imagine contracts can be arranged, don't you?
