Trading card system only for games, bought in the Steam shop
Will be better for Steam economics, if trading cards will be given only to games, bought in the Steam shop or gifted through the Steam. Games from giveaway, curator keys and other third party site keys, will be just a game, without ability to receive trading cards by spending time into a game.

This method will exclude abusing generation of activation keys by not fair developers and selling their game outside the Steam shop for a price, greatly lower, than in the Steam shop.

Also this method will motivate to buy games directly from the Steam shop, not on a other sites, like the Humble Bundle, etc.

That won't happen. simply because it comes off as strong arming developers to only sell on their storefront. FOrce exclusivity and all that.
trading cards already can only be enabled and are available for products that actually sell on Steam and have enough "traffic" on Steam. key activations do not count towards that, so that can't be abused.
Which is why cardspam game makers switched to cheap hentai porn/puzzle games

yeah, except if a game has tc, it will drop for both key activated ones and steam bought copies as well

You're missing the point. A game won't drop cards for anybody until a certain number of copies of the game have been purchased from Steam directly. Once that happens, everyone who owns a copy will be able to receive their free card drops.
The threshold is $1,000. The game must sell enough to make that amount before it gets dropped from the "Steam is learning" status.

And tyhose have to be steam store purchases so free keys and activations don't count.

Correct. Thanks for adding that. I always forget to add that bit.

It was obvious though since a money value isn't reached without actual sales.

It's a matter of which sales are counted.

Example. Steam only sales count only purchases made through the steam store front Meanting it doesn't matter how manyt units you sell through HumbleStore or Fanatical., if you don't sell $1000 worth on the steam store.. then its nothing.
