Borrow inventory items to friends
Friends often asks me to borrow them some csgo skins so they can play a little bit with them.
I only borrowed them only to one friend I really trust.

It would be nice if we had borrowing system in Steam, so we can borrow items to friends without worrying that they won't give them back.

How would it work?
- Person A borrows item to person B for X amount of time.
-Item moves from person's A inventory to person's B.
-Person B can't trade, sell, modify, or delete person's A item.
-After X amount of time passes, item is automatically returned to person A. (Person A can manually take their item back at any time before X amount of time passes).

Also make an option to select people who can borrow your items at any time.
This would be useful if you have a family member who uses items from your inventory.
(In my case I'd have to move all items back and forth between my and my brother's account whenever he wants to play) It'd be much easier if he could borrow my items and give them back when he finishes.

How would Valve benefit from this?
-You can try a lot of friend's items and you'll probably like some of them, and maybe decide to buy them
-If you share your items with family member, it's more likely that you'll buy more because both of you can use them

and how would your system work should one of the accounts get banned for cheating?
system does not appear to do anything usefull. The current system is fine, whats in your inventory is yours. When it leaves your inventory it is no longer yours.

why would i buy a skin when I can keep borrowing yours?

More like "why should I buy an item if I can just lend it?"

Quite honestly, I don't even see the point in lending items in the first place.
What I can see is users lending items to scammers for them to show off how reputable they are and incriminating an innocent account with this.

If one account gets banned, there are two things that could be done:
1. Borrowed items immediately gets back to owners inventory.
2. Items stay as they were in time of ban.
Valve can decide which one of these would be better.

"why would i buy a skin when I can keep borrowing yours?"
-You could borrow my skins right now. The system I propose is only insurance that you'll give them back

Banned items are always locked to the account that has them.

Then the market would be useless.

Ok.
I don't really care about banned items, Valve can do whatever they want with them.
I'd just like insurance when I borrow skin to a friend, that he'll give it back.
Because right now, when I borrow for example $100 knife to him for a week, he could go "I don't have to give it back, legally it's not a steal".

1. That is gifting.

2. Even with any type of insurance, users would do anything to find a way to scam the items.

3. No one needs to borrow anything. They are free to purchase their own items.

If you have to be friend with people borrowing items, then I don't think trading sites could abuse it.

Anyway, reason I made this topic is because I saw a video on YouTube "Story how my friend scammed me"
And in comments there were people saying that they were borrowing skins to friends for a long time.
And at one point, after years of doing that, their friend just blocked them and never returned skins.

Money changes people, even the best friend can backstab you because of it.

It's not only me, I saw more people on this forum requesting this feature few years ago, and never got answers.

Once you send the skin to your friend, it is no longer your skin. If you are worried about being scammed, then stop lending your skins. If something happens, like an account hijacking, or a vac/game ban, then the skin will become locked to the account permanently.

The trading sites would start offering skin rentals, pay us x and you get your choice of skins for Y days. there is your abuse.

i think its a good idea but making it not abusable is the hard part good idea though!

Ask him for something of equal value as collateral. Thats your "insurance". He doesn't give it back, you sell his item on the market and buy your own of that skin.

This would def be great for scammers and 3rd party sites, they just lend out skins for XX amount of money, they get skins back after time and keep doing it. They make more money doing this and they make even more sites then they already do with scamming people.

Def no thanks from me. If you want to let your friends borrow skins that's on you or tell them to buy their own.
