This is something they will not do either since this can put them at odds with more than a few agencies and laws in various countries. COPPA for example.
Good point though...
That still wouldn't mean that they couldn't have a specific sign up section for M rated titles and Identify as an age range. Something like group settings? ways around it possibly.... Just so frustrating... Your talking fine and then you hear some kid screaming their entire way into your room and you can't boot them till they've loaded up over a period of time... Means I'll be using way less features.
Steam can not do what you want, this is technicly impossible.
Isn't there a feature for reporting such people in app. Communication abuse.
Most toxicy players and asshats I've encountered tend to be above drinking age. Mayhaps the best thing would be to suggest a reporting feature for the VR app.
And Valve has no way to verify a users age, so it will never happen.
I don't have to be in charge of Steam to be aware of the legal environment it has to operate in. The feature as selected requires Valve to collect and store age related information in a permanent fashion. This goes a foul of more than a couple watch dog groups across many countries.
This is why the age verification ofn game pages is now a session variable and not permanantly retained as it once was.
Also even in such a case, verification of age is impossible over the internet, voice is also not a good tell since voice modulation is a thing.
Rockon, You don't get what I mean. Positive ID like driving for Lyft or Uber - License and credit card required. Bam. Once that's been checked info is dumped and profile is accepted kind of thing.
Why not call it "Steam: After dark"
And again, youngsters is using mom/dads creditcard, if not mom/dad is creating the whole account for their kids, not a reliable way to verify anything.
And even then, it's not hard for an enterprising soul to borrow someone else's credit card or driver's license.
Because that would basically be a magnet for asshats.
