Age Group Segregation, PLEASE
I don't have any thing against the younger generations being able to play games world wide and with eachother.

However, I am finally fed up with idiot nutcases that are way, way, way to young to play certain genres. Little persons showing up in my open room for VR (sound like bloody toddlers), kids that are 10 begging for me to give them items and tell them how I got certain achievements, donkey hats showing up in my borderlands 2 queue and I'm sick of it. Can some one swear without hearing them say "OOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo!" or hear a parent in the background screaming at them for some cuss word I shouted out over the audio stream.

I would like to have an option to filter the entirety of steam by age group. If I'm over 21, I only want to be seeing things that are accessable to that group, filter out all chat and profiles that aren't in that same setting, automatically filter out VR rooms so I don't have jacked up little kiddies screwing with an "an adult" conversation. Let the kids play with their age group, help the rest of us out.

This would also help parent's with filtering their kids from playing "too adult themed" games, such as (seriously do I need to mention it) Super seducer? Really. M rated content easily pilfered by kids while to them is exciting, to the rest of adults it's nothing but misery.

I'm not usually into setting up hard restrictions for people but yeah, I think it's time.

I encourage parents and gamers of drinking age to put in their 10 cents. I know I'm not the only tax payer out there that is sick of this BS and would be willing to do a paid service just to be separated from kid town.

Thanks!

Not gonna happen since Steam does not collect or Store Age related data.
This is something they will not do either since this can put them at odds with more than a few agencies and laws in various countries. COPPA for example.

I thought they had "family settings" that do some of that already? I know I can very slowlylock 1 by 1 but it'd be easier to blanket it.

Good point though...

Frack. After looking that up (thanks for depressing me) for the first time ever... Sigh.

That still wouldn't mean that they couldn't have a specific sign up section for M rated titles and Identify as an age range. Something like group settings? ways around it possibly.... Just so frustrating... Your talking fine and then you hear some kid screaming their entire way into your room and you can't boot them till they've loaded up over a period of time... Means I'll be using way less features.

ask the devs of the games you play to implement a function to lock your lobby/session with a password or something .. if they dont already provide that.
Steam can not do what you want, this is technicly impossible.

They already do this. That age gate where you have to enter ytour DOB.

Isn't there a feature for reporting such people in app. Communication abuse.
Bazookamoose 2018 年 4 月 1 日 上午 7:47
*head bang* Hopes... Dashed... Only that you can always enter that DOB that is easy to bypass but I doubt it matters. I'll just have to wish for a gaming platform geard towards people who can friggen drink.

Most toxicy players and asshats I've encountered tend to be above drinking age. Mayhaps the best thing would be to suggest a reporting feature for the VR app.

Hmm, that would also be acceptable. There are booting features but not "Banning" features. I would take that. I know private rooms can be made but not so great when you want a bit of a more open door feature - within reason. Funny, mine has been the 100% opposite, of course I'm on during normal day hours and not late at night.

Would not solve anything, most young gamers use mom and dads cards for paying.

It's called a suggestions for a reason, ...
And Valve has no way to verify a users age, so it will never happen.

It's called a suggestions for a reason, not some some moron like you to post 'NOT GOING TO HAPPEN' as if you are in charge of steam.

I don't have to be in charge of Steam to be aware of the legal environment it has to operate in. The feature as selected requires Valve to collect and store age related information in a permanent fashion. This goes a foul of more than a couple watch dog groups across many countries.

This is why the age verification ofn game pages is now a session variable and not permanantly retained as it once was.

Also even in such a case, verification of age is impossible over the internet, voice is also not a good tell since voice modulation is a thing.

This will get weirder I think as POSITIVE-ID is becoming a requirement in the states soon. Too bad the "are you over 18" thing then is not enforceable. But it would be a great feature to turn on some kind of ability to filter... Maybe even just games that are open to "all ages" would be some small semblance of control. I'm sure there are parents out there that also want this kind of control some day too, just means that all info collected will need to be open and free to collect to help manage things... That's outside the scope of the feature request though.

Rockon, You don't get what I mean. Positive ID like driving for Lyft or Uber - License and credit card required. Bam. Once that's been checked info is dumped and profile is accepted kind of thing.

Why not call it "Steam: After dark"

Valve is a worldwide company, and demanding that kind of proof, is not an option, Valve is not allowed to ask for or collect that kind of info, alot of adults don't even have that kind of papers.

And again, youngsters is using mom/dads creditcard, if not mom/dad is creating the whole account for their kids, not a reliable way to verify anything.

And what prevents someone from making a fake driver's license. Photoshop is a thing. You would have to connect to the government databases to confirm that. Now let's be serious, governments do not hand that sort of info out willy-nilly. this is why background checks take the time they do.

And even then, it's not hard for an enterprising soul to borrow someone else's credit card or driver's license.

Why not call it "Steam: After dark"
Because that would basically be a magnet for asshats.

Agree, often the young gamers behave best.
