Manually download DLC
Each time after buying a DLC it is such a hassle to force Steam to actually download it.

Verify integrity of game cache, uncheck / re-check the "install" checkbox, exit and restart the steam client a couple of times, start and exit the game a couple of times.

Usually one of these options finally triggers the download, but it is so cumbersome. A button "download" next to the DLC would be so much easier.

I think you'd be better off posting this to help or contacting support, I've never had such issues.

sounds like a problem with ur pc op. I should also mention, if this is happening with other software (ie: problem saving files) then it's best you backup your data somewhere before the drive dies.

The DLC should download upon purchase. At the very least you should get a prompt asking you whether to install it now, like with any other purchase.

You sure the DLC isn't already installed before you uncheck the box (which de-registers it).

I had issues on my lap top getting dlc to download, but someone from Steam Support got me fixed up. If you haven't hit them up, they can walk you through it. I think I had a corrupted file in my directory, ever since I did as was told I have no problems yet.

Guys, I appreciate you trying to help me. Maybe the issue of dlc not downloading automatically could be resolved by re-installing the Steam client, maybe it could be resolved by having a better internet connection (mine isn't so great). Who knows?

Nonetheless, I posted in the suggestion forum on purpose. If you google "force steam to download dlc", you will realize that I am far from the only user with this problem. And also that this problem is around for more than five years now.

In my experience, if a software bug is not fixed in five years, chances of it never being fixed are near 100%. That's why I made the suggestion of allowing the user to manually trigger the download, as a workaround.

OH I wasn't saying it was your pc, I was saying it might be something the tech support can help with, as they walked me through what I needed to do without losing any data really. I hope you get the help you need to get it fixed meow. I had it on my main rig, but when I went to get it on my laptop there were some issues.
