When buying cards, backgrounds or emoticons, make the price box pennies/cents not $£€ etc
It's all to easy to accidentally enter £3 instead of 3p, I just did it, thankfully the lowest card offer price was 11p so no big loss. But since these items are typically a few pennies or cents each, it makes sense for the price box to also be in pence or cents.

Pay attention to what you are entering and put a period in there to denote change rather that whole numbers.

Stating the obvious there.

I'm suggesting this to save time and reduce mistakes and support tickets and so people don't have to waste time typing a period. It'd make more sense to be able to just type 5 when you're buying a 5p or 5c card.

So, you want it to automatically enter in change rather than whole numbers? And how will that affect users that know whole numbers are auto and type 3 only getting a 0.03 and having to enter it in again? I've never seen a place that does that.

How pays $3 for a card

Straw man argumenr there, 99.99% of the time people aren't going to be spending $3 on a card, they don't cost that much because the maximum value of cards is affected by the value of booster packs which can be crafted from gems - which have a small price on the market.

But they are not the only items on the market. Do you want separate ways of entering amount for trading cards and the other market items?

I don't really care about expensive items. I want what I said I wanted.

So you want a method not used anywhere else to enter amounts of money? That would confuse and create more headaches for users and Valve then solve the issue with a person not paying attention before clicking the OK button.

I disagree. I think people know the difference between $ and c.

As you should know the difference between whole numbers, change and how they are written/typed out.

That would be even worse.

Worst case scenario with the actual system.
-Someone screws up and puts for sale a 3c item for $3.00 You can cancel the listing and fix it.
Worst case scenario with your system:
-Someone screws up and puts for sale a $300 item for $3.00 The item is gone in an instant and you're out of $297

Straw man again, the three things I mentioned are never worth so much, they are typically worth a few cents, the occasional background or emote gets up to $10 to $20 but that's very very rare, I have thousands of items and none of them are worth that much. And note I said when *buying*.

You made a strawman yourself. Not every inventory is your inventory. There's thousands of items priced beyond a dollar that could be accidentally sold for pennies with your system.

And it still doesn't change the fact that listing for a higher price in case of error is more forgiving than the other way around, regardless of the item price.

It's better to accidentally put for sale a 1c item for $1 than accidentally selling a $1 item for 1c.

Again, you're completely ignoring the fact that I said BUY, not SELL, it's word number two in the title of my suggestion. I wasn't asking for the sell box to be changed.

Having two differen units would be even more confusing.

You have to confirm everything at least thrice, so pay attention to what you are doing.

No, for buying cards there is no confirmation, unless enhanced steam removed a step, i can't test the steam client right now because the login is currently down. [edit] Zero confirmation when buying, click buy and it buys or places an order.
