A new Steam client has been released and will be automatically downloaded.

  • Fixed the overlay not working correctly or crashing some DXGI/DX12 games in upcoming Windows Insider builds.

  • Support a LAN event using DNS injection on lancache.steamcontent.com to set up a local explicit caching proxy for downloads.

  • Fixed "Open the screenshot uploader after closing a game if screenshots were taken" setting not being honored in some cases

Library
  • Added sort by Steam Review to shelves and app grids.

  • Added Library What’s New settings dialog which makes it easier to find and manage per-game news priorities

  • Added a setting to show only product updates in Library What’s New

  • Added Windows drive letter to the "Size on Disk" label shown on installed game portraits.

  • Played/Unplayed filters no longer include/exclude games that were installed but never actually played

  • Improved performance of library artwork precacher

  • Improved library filtering for Korean game titles when typing in Hangul.

  • Fixed non-Steam games with the "Include in VR Library" checkbox checked not appearing in dynamic collections with VR hardware support selected

  • Fixed hidden achievements sometimes still appearing as hidden in the activity feed even after being achieved

  • Fixed an issue that would sometimes cause the wrong audio to play from a multi-disc soundtrack when playing an individual track

This helps some games where the first identified controller or the first slot is locked to the primary game character and the group only brought a single controller. This also help cases where a player leaves the session with their controller and the host needs to take over input in the abandoned slot.

  • Added error message when trying to join a game that is unavailable due to country or Family View restrictions.

Linux
  • Only execute steam-runtime-system-info when needed for diagnostics.

  • Initiate steam-runtime-system-info only when needed.

Put the old library as an option
This one is crap.

Who else is with me?

Yeah, I generally agree. A legacy client option wouldn't hurt anyone. Not a fan of the current library either, although it sure as hell isn't the worst UI out there. First two times I opened the new Library, Steam actually just crashed and needed to have the process ended.

If you actually refuse to change back, at least allow me to sort the list that you DO still have Alphabetically and by Size on Disk (at the same time).

The only other thing would be to make the grid view and the community stuff collapsable almost entirely.

I found an app called Playnite that makes a library of all you games for every client you have and it functions similar to the old steam library UI. That might be helpful

1.6GB ram used after launching steam

1.2GB of images on my SSD, 16,000 image files. (librarycache folder)

non-intuitive game details layout

LowBandwidth & Low-Performance modes dont do squat
well thankfully it does disable the horrible SCROLLBAR hiding

STREAMOVERLAY BROKEN
no fps, no screenshots, nothing. BROKEN.

Somehow I doubt it's the "unGoogle'd" version of Chromium, either.

But that's hardly surprising, since Steam has been feeding it's "users" metrics to Google for years now. Funny whenever I mentioned it prior to the GDPR disclosure a common reaction was "tinfoilhat lel."

I guess previous Steam version wasn't pulling enough of them sweet, sweet hardware/software fingerprints, heh.

Feedback and reports here, no flaming.

(I personally think that people will get used to the new interface.) I'd like to be useful and provide concrete feedback about technical issues. Here it goes.

1. I have "tearing" and client failing to draw graphics in (black rectangles) in the library list OR in the content window after clicking out of any Store page. Example screenshots:

https://yadi.sk/i/M4pLP3m6fgy2Mg
https://yadi.sk/i/M4pLP3m6fgy2Mg
https://yadi.sk/i/7KlFZoaTSEbtFA
https://yadi.sk/i/6VKNgmWPW6-zbA (yes, this is Library view, which amost completely failed to draw)

2. The fade-in feature for mini-icons in the library list does not feel very good. It doesn't serve a purpose and creates visual clutter and delays. This is not loading process, since these are definitely local and keep "fading in" no matter how many times you scroll the library list. Also as a result, when quick scrolling, you can make the mini-icons disappear. Example screenshot:

https://yadi.sk/i/dPHl5UVnukhJWQ

3. The scrolling of the new library list is smoothed, which introduces significant lag into it. When your library is over 300 titles like mine, it makes the process of using it significantly worse. It sounds like a minor thing, but it feels very unpleasant, since before it was instant and responsive. Together with waiting for the list to draw itself, and waiting for icons to resolve, the experience is not good.

4. The new library list feels much less readable visually / typographically than the old one. I suspect it's due to line spacing and font size / width. Category headlines also blend visually with the game titles, they are hard to spot instantly unlike before.

5. The automatic category placing VR titles in their own category at the end (regardless of their presence in other categories) is gone. I thought it was a very useful feature, since I cannot always remember which exact games are VR-compatible in my library. Going through all 300 when I get the chance to use a VR headset is going to be a nightmare. Even if sorting by VR is possible using search, it's not optimal. Besides, there are sorting filters for videos and tools. There should be a filter for VR, then, in my opinion.

Thank you.

That'd require them to admit to the memory leak it had since the private beta, and fix it. Or that noone asked for or wanted this to begin with.

My stuff takes a backseat to the Activity and Community content. WTF!!!?

So now the Activity and Community are more important on my game page than the game, my achievements and screenshots (which are pushed way to the right and only comprise of 1/4 of the page space)!!!!??

Because I really give a toss about someone else's content and screenshots. :steamfacepalm:
What's next, live streams taking up my game's page?
Epic fail.

It's not about you. It's about peer-pressuring engagement out of you.
It's a disgusting UX dark pattern that Valve borrowed from social media platforms.

I have no idea why this new library was thought up. All it does is present the information I didn't care about in great big icons and forces me to waste even more time going through my library to find anything (since I can't collapse all my collections like before)

Yet another request for 'give us the option instead of telling us we have to deal with someone else's choices'

Please give us an option to use the old UI. Many of us really liked it for how simple and easy to read it was.

Pretty much what i do not understand about this kinda choices. It is 2019, what do companies not understand about customization options?
90% of the complains would be gone if the new ui would come with the design it does but fully customizable, in size, layout etc.
Sure the performance issues remain but this can be fixed... the design issue are a core issue that are not as "easy" to fix.
