Bring back recent games on jump list
I found out today that this feature is no longer in use after I upgraded from Win 7 to 10. Right clicking on the pinned steam client to see the "Recent" section. Usually it shows up to 5 games, but now it only shows one which basically renders it useless for jumping in between games after you are done with one. I found it a very nice feature and I do not understand why it was taken away. Thank you for reading.

I have played about 5 games at this point.

Two steam icons in my taskbar? No. Back on Windows 7 I did though.

Does that matter? Is that an issue? Steam support sadly told me directly that is is a feature they got rid of. IDK why, it was such a nice feature!

Isn’t that just more the fact that you don’t have enough space on the list? The list is limited to like 10 slots total so the recent list is likely just getting cut off. You can either

1) remove entries in the list
2) hack the registry to increase the limit

Mine has the last 5 games in the list because I only have 5 other entries in the task list

steam settings -> interface -> set taskbar preferences. uncheck stuff.

I would rather hack the registry. I do not think it is number 1 because I had the *exact same options* as in Windows 7 so IDK why.

How do I hack the registry?

Last I checked, running Steam beta, I still had jump lists in my taskbar. Try launching several games other than the last 5 you have played, and see if the list populates; the upgrade may have reset the contents of jump lists all over Windows.

Windows 10 reduced the list to 10

It’s a Windows 10 limitation

Steam/Valve can't get rid of Microsoft features. Microsoft however got rid of the ability to set the number of items in a jumplist through a simple setting. Now you need to edit it manually in the registry.

As evidenced by the fact 1 game shows up, your jumplist works fine. The problem is all the library/friends/settings stuff counts towards the limit of 10 too.

You have two options: reduce the number of items shown by steam in settings -> Interface -> taskbar preferences to free up space for recent games.
or,
edit the registry to increase the jumplist size.

Thank you for the link. Problem! I do not have that DWORD in Windows 10 registry?!?! It just is not in there.

Nevermind, I am an idiot and did not read. Sorry, ignore.

I just checked my jump list (Windows 10 Insider Preview 18908, no registry hacks) and I have the following:
  • 5 recent games
  • 5 Tasks
  • Big Picture
  • SteamVR
  • Exit Steam
for a total of 13 jump list entries.
