Half-Life 1 Anthology Steam Keys Redemption
Hi, I bought the above from an online seller. I wasn't made aware it came with a Steam DRM key. The code was taken. For some years I've been figuring out what to do about this. It's too late to go back to the seller but I was thinking if Steam/Valve offered a policy for people to submit photo proof of their Key code forms could we get the games redeemed somehow? Or could the Steam code at least be voided so the other person doesn't have the game any more?

Too late, you most likely bought a used code. Buy a real one and carry on.
I'm well aware of that. This is a request to Valve for everyone in this predicament.
Valve can not assist with already redeemed key from resellers.

Keys are permanently bound to accounts.

Don't purchase 2nd hand PC games that have DRM.

You do understand that physical keys are proof of ownership on accounts, correct?

OP. You got take for a ride.. though honestly why would you expose yourself to this risk. I mean the HL anthology goes on sale fror like$ 5 ior less every major steam sale...

Next time.. learn to be suspicious of super cheap stuff online.
Why should Valve help you?
You bought a second hand copy from a most likely unauthorized reseller. Valve wasn't involved in that transaction and won't get even a single cent of that purchase.
There is literally zero incentive to help you as they would lose money instead of making money.
Its 2019 not the 90's, don't buy 2nd hand CD keys for PC games and expect them to work

Also, the last time Half Life 1 Anthology went on sale was June, and it was a 95% reduction.

Just wait for a sale and buy it on Steam....

Reason why i never buy second hand games. They can indeed use the key, including a photocopy of the purchase to try to claim other peoples accounts.
Bad suggestion.
Steam will never do this as it's not a good idea and is prone to people exploiting it.

Long story short you bought keys from a third party seller, something which Valve/Steam does not recommend.

It's like finding an usb stick on the street and take it home to check.

That is only 1 item of proof. They usually ask for 3 things.

it is correct that OP is at fault for buying 2nd hand but the seller is also not off the boat, it was a scam, unintentional or not.

OP has the physical copy. Steam support will not ask for a receipt, a photo of the box and the key is enough.

and he should do it.

Well I can provide proof of the key and the case even though everyone here says it's unlikely Valve will help.

I would like to clarify that I bought my copy of the anthology over ebay back in 2011. I did raise a ticket to Valve at the time but they gave me reasoning everybody here is giving me. I just thought something had been done about this since. I know everyone will say this is my fault but some things to keep in mind:

1) You don't normally expect games to be sold via ebay that have used keys. Never happened to be before so wouldn't really expect it to happen at that time. For instance I did buy via Amazon a year or so ago a physical copy of the Cinemaware Anthology which required Steam activation. It was advertised and bought as 'new' but the code was taken. Thankfully I returned it and got a refund but it can still happen on advertised new items as well.

2) My fault for not doing enough research. I had no idea the anthology was DRM via Steam.

3) I bought this back in 2011. I wasn't familiar with what DRM even was, a lot of games were still being sold without needing Steam like the Lego games.

I don't want to come across like I'm being entitled to redeemable copies of those Anthology games but I thought this would be a chance to put forward something that has been bugging me these years to see if Valve would do something. I guess not?

Actually, no, you DO expect any PC game sold on Ebay to be ripped off.

Amazon is NOT ebay. Ebay sells someone else's used crap, Amazon can be a legitimate storefront for PC games. Ebay absolutely is not a safe place to buy games. ever.

And I'm sure that your proof that you purchased that product on Ebay exists.

The problem is: Valve never saw a penny of it. So... Steam owes you exactly zero for any of this. They never encountered you as a customer at that point.

Again it depends on when it was released. I wouldn't think that an anthology released back in 2005 would have DRM. Most PC games back then didn't.

Steam has been around since 2003.
