There's no law in the US mandating videogame age restrictions. It's something various companies do to avoid issues with parents and such. IE: Gamestop not selling to kids under x age for y rating because parents might get upset, etc.

The system is working as intended by ESRB.
https://esrbstorage.blob.core.windows.net/esrbcontent/ratings/downloads/ewc_code.pdf

2.2 If the audio-visual content contains material from a Mature-rated or Adults Only-rated game (or one that is anticipated to receive either rating), display an ESRB-compliant age-gate prior to access or purchase.

"that are rated as not suitable for children"

And I am not a child, and am logged in with my information. Thus I shouldn't have to bypass some faux-proof-of-age system to see a game in store.

i did not say that there was a law requiring this. i stated that valve requires this for legal purposes. i just worded it incorrectly in my other post. sorry.

That's great. But, it has nothing to do with what Tito Shivan posted.

The fact that places like Steam are willing to put up these age gates is why there is no US law to mandate it.

Or if people could, you know listen to the point, which is once I am logged in, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SEE THIS ♥♥♥♥ BECAUSE I'VE ALREADY VERIFIED, it shouldn't still be there. You people keep making it seem like I want it completely gone from Steam in general, which is not what's being said. I am logged in, it's my account, nobody is supposed to share accounts anyways, I have verified, it shouldn't be shown to be again ONCE LOGGED IN. Can you comprehend that? Apparently not. I'm not asking for it to be completely gone from steam as you all seem to keep implying, ONCE LOGGED IN I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SEE IT. Reading comprehension, maybe you should get some.

it is. Valve does already the most minimalistic version of it and does some grey legal stuff and save the choice for the session, normally this age gate has to be put before every product and on Steam you only have to do it once as long as the Steam session is active.

First my complaint is based on the fact that no you don't have to do it once by session becaue it keeps doing it to me. Second, no ESRB is not law.

You should, because the gate is meant to be placed where it is: before accessing the contents.

Lets go with an example.
Imagine your account is a mall, full of stores(games). Some are meant for all the family others are adult only.

Where does it make sense to put an ID check, at the entrance of the mall, or at the adult store within?

then something is wrong with your steam client/webbrowser. once you entered the age, you will not have to enter it until you restart Steam under normal circumstances.

and because someone just quoted the esrb it is not law?
guess that person was just too lazy to look for the legal agegate requirements for several countries. US has it, called COPPA from the FTC, EU commission recommends it, many EU countries follow, japan has it and so on.

you simply do not ♥♥♥♥ around with kids, period. if it annoys you that much, use a normal webbrowser for Steam and set a permanent cookie.
