Why dosn't Steam take bmp.?

Ok so I have a avatar I used to have when my user name was Nightro and I know how to uplaod it and all, but the only way I was able to save it for some reson is bmp. I dont know how to change it to gyph jpeg etc. So will ya'll peps out there help me? I'm trying my best to where I dont want to re-make it so mabye Steam creators could help me mabye by makeing a Steam update or something?

You can convert .bmp format to .jpeg with a program like GIMP.

So what do I do?

Download and install GIMP and open the .bmp file and go to the 'export as' button and choose .jpeg as desired format.
You can also resize and set the conversion quality before exporting the file.

If this is to much hassle for you use an online image conversion service

windows has a program named paint. does the same job.

edit: save as>jpeg is on the dropdown menu too.

I did it with paint and I was only able to save it in bmp
