Discussing this with friends, I am asked block the content, dont look at it ect. Its not about that. If your shopping in a Joe Bobs Game Shop store and theres a pedophelic art section that says something about you. Thats not a store im going to use. Infact thats a store im going out of my way not to associate with. Just because this store is digital dosnt mean any different. You either condone it or you dont. I dont and I want to hear from someone who has proper authority to represent steam and you dont have to like my views or what I am saying. If steam wants to have that kind of section in their store I will happily avoid it and turn other people on to what that store is doing.
I was here before this started and questionable stuff started popping up the past few years and I began to feel uncomfortable. And the other day my daughter and I were playing Slime Rancher (Great Game) and she wanted to find new games so we started looking through upcoming and sale games... And I started getting sick at some of the titles and I saw and quickly told her well do it later. Now I have to figure out how to apply content block before she can use steam again. Now I have to figure out how to lose this sickening feeling that steam might not be a healthy game distributor to be associated with. I cant lose this feeling. It does not feel okay with me.
Bottom line. Zero tolerance for pedophile esq content. Zero. Its not even a question I have to ask myself a second time. This is steams chance to be heard and to set some precedent. They dont want to change, they want to embrace and profit on this and make this a normal part of their business model... I will happily walk from thousands of dollars and thousands of hours and years and years of games and good times and my only real escape from the harsh realitys of life and start shopping at a store that dosnt have a section that not only makes me embarassed and sick. But makes me wonder what kind of person I am conding it.
No, this is you imposing your moral views on an international platform.
You don't like it? Steam provides way for you to never see it again.
This is just the latest and most active of countless threads dealing with this topic:

What you're saying boils down to is that poeople who want those sorts of games shouldn't be allowed to shop in the same store you like. SOrry. Not gonna happen.
View (next to Steam) > small mode
Buy games elsewhere.
Or deal with the fact that other people all over the globe like different things than you.

You mean I cant use the store I cant look for new games. Theres no box I can uncheck that says smut or pedophile art. I dont really care if there is. Your store has this section. Are you going to continue to shop there? Im not. I am not trying to tell you what is right and wrong. I am looking within and feeling what is right and wrong for me. At the end of the day your either using this store or you are not. I have the problem of having all my games on this digital platform now. Now everytime I am loading up steam I am asking myself do you condone having this section. Do you want to associate with it. The answer is rapidly becoming no to everything. Not because its convient not because its easy and I can just pretend its not there. Because at the end of the day I either support it or not.
Okay I dont support it good for me, but what does that really mean? Sadly it means leaving. Steam wasnt always like this. This is recent. If it was here when I started honestly I can tell you I wouldnt be a customer... I am waiting for a steam spokesman to chime in, heres your chance....
I know steam wants money and its just a corperation that makes money annonymously for a group of invenstors who can remain unassociated and profit. I know im going to be leaving and saying goodbye to everything. I feel it. The truth is, I dont want to associate with you who condone it. I dont want to associate with you who profit and carry it.
Steam!!! Chime in, its not to late... Maybe you wont be saving money... But maybe just maybe.... Youll be saving your soul.
Thank you. Still cant browse the store with my daughter and that makes me sad we cant look for new games together. And that section is still there and everytime I log in I am still supporting steam.... I think its ridiculous steam has even gotten to the point where this has to be a issue. I had to try my best let them know... I did set up family view and Im glad thats at least a feature. But it dosnt really change my issue...
You know when I started on steam I had a entire library of games and hard cds and boxes etc... When these games came to steam I got rid of my entire physical library after a few moves and before another one I decided it was better to have everything on steam.. It had my full support. 14 Years later and I have to think about walking away because of what I feel is right and wrong and now im in the position where I lose my entire catalogue... I am very mad that I am in this position and it feels like a lose lose...
It sorta baffles me as well.
We understand every family has its own approach to establishing rules and setting limits when it comes to media, entertainment and games. We hope most families talk through these issues together and find ways to agree on what's realistic and fair. With Family View, Steam is introducing a new way for parents and families to establish their own rules together.
Whether a Steam account is your own or your child’s, you can use Family View to limit an account’s access to a subset of its content and features. With Family View, access to the Steam Store, Library, Community, and Friends content and features may be gated by the entry of an additional PIN.

so while sure, some such games do have some questionable artwork (not all games with an anime artstyle, fyi) its not really pedophilia
its a recent thing..
growing up my father had a bit of a drinking problem, so I don't really condone recreational drinking unless ones at a social event.. I don't however complain to my grocery store they should get rid of the wine section, I just don't go into the wine section..
the issue comes up as its a digital marketplace, unless a user manually sets filters they are more likely to see a product they do not like compared to walking through the rows at a department store.. and of course, internet logic has been "I don't like it, so it shouldn't exist" since 2003..
@OP, if you really think Valve is premoting and marketing pedophilia contact your national authority for such things.. however, such an attempt would likely be even less sucessful than the person trying to get an art Gallery in montreal in trouble because of hundreds of years old paintings which featured nude kids (who actually had the bodily features of a minor, not the body types most anime characters have that even most adult woman can't match)..
If you don't like porn games, why did you disable porn filters that are enabled by default? Go to your preferences and uncheck "Frequent Nudity or Sexual Content " and "Adult Only Sexual Content " under Mature Content Filtering and you never have to see porn games again. Do make sure you uncheck both Store and Community checks so you community are featuring porn is also disabled.
Games like Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, Baldur's Gate 3, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 etc. will show up as they are under "Some Nudity or Sexual Content " filter.
