An "Invisible" Status
A status that makes you appear offline but still being able to access some online features (like seeing what your friends are playing, what servers they are on, be able to SHIFT+TAB and so on).

Used for when you want to just play games without interference from friends asking to play, etc.

Yeah that's what I use and most people use. You're unable to see what your friends are doing, can't shift+tab.

You ask for a way for you to be "invicible" but still see what other people do, sorry, but that sound a bit like a stalker feature.

If you want to relax, set it to "offline" and when you need to know what your friends are doing, go back online, why do you need to be able to look at them without they know it?

EDIT:
Looked at your previous profilenames, and now I think your request sounds creepy as hell.

So you basically want away to stalk your friends.
Yeah. Not gonna happen.

It might have worked with MSN, but it isn't going to work with Steam.

or FB
No thanks, this feature is not needed.

But I wouldn't mind a small custom info box under your name but above what game you are in or when not in a game above the message "online" on your friends list.

I know you can do this with non steam game and write w/e you want for the title like sleeping, idling, or w/e.

ya i literally just sent a message to steamsupport about this (idk if that'll work, but i'm determined dag nab it). if i'm playing witcher 3 or _____ single player game, i don't want a bombardment of game invites or messages - but if i did want to join up with friends on a different game, it'd be great to be able to check without going online then back offline every time. 10/10 would support having this capability in Steam.

What's wrong with setting your status to busy and tell your friends to respect that? Sounds more like a problem of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ friends than with Steam.

There's nothing WRONG with doing that. It's the same kind of reasoning as to why i drive my 6 miles to work every day instead of walking. It's EASIER. this post is under "suggestions/ideas", If you don't like the suggestion/idea, maybe go somewhere else to give your stupid opinion? Because as far as I can tell, it wouldn't affect you in any way if this was something that was added. ♥♥♥♥ got me heated.

Just turn off notification sounds and any notifications you don't want displayed in game? That's what I did

I guess many things (that weren't intended for stalking) can be used to stalk. Just a feature that would be helpful for some. I understand why you would say that it could be used for stalking but I guess that's a problem depending on the friends you have.

Nonetheless, I wouldn't consider being able to see what video game someone is playing as an act of stalking; regardless of whether or not you are seen as online. It's not an overwhelming breach of privacy.

SIDE NOTE: It's 'invisible' not 'invincible.

*I see you've stumbled across my previous usernames. They're coming for you.*

The stuff about "stalking your friends" is absurd. You can see info on what your friends are playing without being online on the client already. I suspect that's caused about zero problems over the years.

Well that didn't sound stalker-y at all, no siree.

There's also this.

Ultimately, though? Not sure the OP's suggestion really "does" anything, so...a bit underwhelming? I don't think Valve should make it a priority.
