Ability to remove/hide VR category in library
Sometimes you buy game with VR support. Or someone gifts you one, or maybe game you had got VR support. If you use VR, that's great, if don't, I suppose that's cool too.
But here's the problem: either of that happens, steam automatically creates new category in your library you cannot remove. It will only disappear if you either remove or set to hidden every game in it. It's small thing really, just annoying, if someone has his library already organised.

Here's few ideas how it can be improved:

#1 VR category autohides if all games from it are assigned to custom categories, just like catch-the-all 'games' category
#2 VR category only appears if it's selected via library filtering.
#3 VR category only appears if VR hardware is detected.

Anyone has more/better ideas?

with valve helping to spur the VR movement with spending a great deal of time and money on the development of the HTC Vive, i doubt they are going to let that category be hidden.

Can we simply NOT have the VR category, whatsoever? Those want it, can create one for themselves, why is it rammed down everyone's throat?

You can't unless you use the "permanently remove game" option through here https://help.steampowered.com/en/ .

Plus, if you BUY some VR games, the don't auto-add themselves into the VR menu so you end up with "two" VR categories (which makes no sense at all) because you need somewhere to put other VR games.

The games tree is functional but it's really a pain for anyone who has 500+ games because the list of genere(s) gets so long that you have to scroll down and that's just annoying. Maybe Steam could rewok the client with a different type of menu?

There is a Steam client redesign with new library options slated for Beta later this year.

Go to your library > Look for the VR games > Click on the "-" next to VR > Congratulations you just hid all VR games from your library

Too bad question isn't about hiding games from VR category, but about hiding or removing category itself.

Remove VR category in Library
The VR category is cluttering my library games list with duplicate entries. I give every game a category once I play it, so it gets doubled up and this VR cetegory is the only category that does not go away (unlike GAMES category which will be removed once a game is given a user category).

VR already shows in the dropdown where users can chooce games, software, VR, etc...it should not have it's own category in my regular games list. Or if you must then it should remove that label once I give a game an actual category.

This, aha Steam doesn't understand all users

Yes, it's silly uglyness, I don't need it, it should be optional.

Nope 😜

+1. I also hate this. Not everyone can afford VR with its expensive price tag, and certainly not everyone can afford a good enough PC for VR

Here, here....Or make it an optional category. As it stands today you can still hit the minimize button which will reduce the VR games line to one.
