Mod folder for game mysteriously absent

Hi,

I'm completely new to mods (and also to computer games, really). I'm playing Don't Starve and I'm trying to install a mod that seems fun but I'm unable to find the "mod" folder that's supposed to be at the end of this trail:

\Steam\SteamApps\common\dont_starve\mods

The only file in the "common" folder is the application dontstarve_steam. Nothing else.

Am I missing something blindingly obvious here?

dontstarve_steam.exe should appear under \common\dont_starve\bin
If you're in bin, you need to go back one.

dontstarve_steam.exe isn't in the \common folder (actually I can't find anything called bin either but my knowledge is pretty piecemeal and that might be over my head)

I tried searching for don'tstarve_steam.exe on its own but can't seem to find it anywhere in my computer which is possibly part of the problem....

Did you choose to install Don't Starve on a different disk? If so, that's where it will be.

By default, Steam installs games into the steamapps\common folder. It would then be under dont_starve.

OH OH IT WORKED!

First a big derp that I didn't know: macs use .app files - .app is where it's supposed to be. After that I found the "mod" file and then went into scripts.

Thanks! I realize this is "user error" on my part, I'm not very familiar with how computers work except for the bits of info I've gleaned, very patched together.

Can you help me? I ALSO can't find my Mod folder

Ah-ha! I've got it! Right-click (or control-click) on dontstarve and click on "show package contents". It'll be in there. Can't believe I didn't see this before.
