Using Steam Account on two computers
I have a laptop I want to take to work and play bloodbowl and other games I purchased on Steam on my home PC...Can I do this...only one computer will be used at a time. Do I just login into Steam with my login and password and re-download..or is the license for only one puter? What if in the future my son and I want to play bloodbowl pc to pc...then I'll have to purchase it seperately with a new account on that computer right?

Yes, you can use as many computers as you wish to play your games. (one at a time)

Yes, one user per an account, one computer logged in at a time. What will happen is, your daught would get disconected, the game would either close or minimize, and a message would pop up saying she was disconnected.

That is about it. You won't lose your account or games.

I think you can not log in to the same account at the same time on two different computers. But correct me if I am wrong. I always log off the other computer if I am going to log in on a new one. I am pretty sure you can not play two games at the same time on two different computers. But you can have Steam on many computers. Just not log in on all at the same time :p
The thing you could do, depends on your daughters age of course, is that she creates her own account, and you could pay and gift her the games she wants to her account.. Then you both can play on 2 different accounts with the same router.. Hope this was helpful..

You can only have one active login at any given time.
If Computer A is logged and you log on the same account on Computer B, computer A will simply log off Steam.
You can put one of the computers on Offline Mode too, that way your daughter will be able to play offline games while you play Skyrim, or other online game on the other computer.
Many parents use the same trick. ;)

It depends if the game supports saving to the Steam cloud. If it does then you can move between the two easily and continue playing where you left off.

Check the store page for whatever game you want to try, see if it has Steam Cloud listed in it's features on the right side.

Note that Steam cloud is an "In Theory" you can continue right from where you left off. In practice if you aren't careful to make sure that the save files are synced (happens after you close the game if you have internet access) you can end up with lost game time.

It might work perfectly for you (particularly if you use your different machines only in locations where they have reliable internet access), but you might find it problematic.

Ok, but what happens on the games once I log out on that 2nd pc? can anyone access them or can you only play them if my account is logged in ?

You can only play games you own the licence to on Steam and/or other game related accounts.
You can also use family sharing if you wish to use the games on/with other Steam accounts.

Over 90% (not an actual number) of Steam games and software are linked to Steam and can't be launched without a Steam account owning a licence to launch those.

I know I'm responding to old posts, but meh...

Awesome, thanks for the feedback! I especially appreciate you also explaining what would happen if you were to leave your PC logged into Steam and then log into Steam again using your laptop (either accidental or not).

Ninja'd or not, this is also a very useful tip!

Thanks to the both of you!

So if I want to be able to play steam games at the same time that my daughters are playing different steam games, it would be best to have 2 accounts? One on each computer?

That would be the easiest way with each of you owning your own games.

Has anyone ever used the family sharing option between two accounts? Would that work well?
