My games are taking up extreme amounts of space...need help urgently.
So, one could typically install Garry's Mod and expect it to take up around 4 GB of space. Steam tells me that it takes up around this much. However, upon attempting to install The Witcher 2 today, I was notified of my hard drive (1 TB) to be almost at full capacity. This makes no sense as only yesterday it was showing that I had over half of the storage still available.

I checked my "Programs and Features" in order to find out what was taking up so much space. As it turns out, all of my Steam games (and only Steam games) were taking up extremely large amounts of space. Hitman: Absolution is taking up 23 GB. Garry's Mod is taking up 112 GB. Arma 3 Alpha is taking up a whopping 337 GB.

I know for a fact they are no where near this large, and can't seem to fix the problem. I have tried defragmenting game files, checking the integrity of the cache, and uninstalling+reinstalling a game, none of which helped.

So does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

It's likely that the uninstaller is reporting incorrect amounts (as they add up to more than 1TB total).

Something you CAN check however -- go to the "steamapps\common" folder under the Steam install directory. This is where all of the games are being installed -- see if any games are taking up unusual amounts of space there.

It's true, the amounts are technologically impossible because that's far more than 1TB.

I checked in many game folders in the directory you suggested. I can't seem to find any trace of what could be the cause of this problem. When I pull up the properties of the C drive, it tells me that all but around 6GB has been used up. I might have to report this problem directly to Valve Support since this issue applies exclusively to my games on Steam.

If you do a properties on the entire Steam folder, what does it show? (Might take a bit to bring up)

It says that the all the content in the Steam folder adds up to about 313 GB. Which is extremely less than the amount it would be if the uninstaller was displaying accurate amounts of space taken up by the games.

Well, many games these days download more graphics than the stated amount if your computer can take it. I would say go into settings and change the graphic quality, reinstall it or contact steam. Hope this helps.
