They changed it due to all the keys being shared. They asked people not to give away keys and just buy them as a gift instead. Too many people were trading them as well keys shops re-selling them.
This prevents those issues. I think there are some exceptions though, like when they add more games.
Well what would that mean for the games that I already had copies of? I know they don't want them distributed for whatever reason, but I'd rather give it to friends or family member than leave it sitting forever.
Seems pretty underhanded to mess with the steam keys that I already posess at this point.
Those game vanish into the internet back hold.
It makes sense to me. They asked people not to give them away, especially sine you could get them so cheaply.
Honesty, I don't know why they didn't do it before. They wouldn't have had to, though, if people had followed the rules and not given them away so much. That takes away from HG, charities and the developers who made the games.
At $1 for several games, I tend to buy several packages as gifts on a regular basis. Not really a waste if I own the game either. It is, after all, for charity.
I'm not gonna feel bad for giving them to someone else, rather than them just sitting there being useless, and I don't appreciate any attempt to retroactively mess with my existing steam keys after the policy change either.
They changed thier steam activation method? Fine, that's okay. Going back and taking away all of the keys I've already accumulated? Nah, not fine, not okay.
That doesn't work for the older bundles.
You act like this is 'new' which is a tad puzzling given that Humble bundle has done both for awhile anyway.
---
You seem to be a bit confused by the nomenclature. The new "Redeem" button simply allows Humlbe Bunlde to directly like that game/bundle to your account. It's not 'all' of them, just whatever that particular game/bundle you're redeeming. if its multiple games, the UI is very clear that you're putting "Games A/B/C" on that account
For exampel the BitComposer bundle gives you the below the average games with one key.
But the WB bundle had separate keys for each one that you could redeem separately.
Note these are all on the 'new' system. So how they keys redeem are dependent on the developer/publisher
Actually it's not underhanded at all.
If you check the terms of what you agree to way back when you first bought anything there, it clearly states you mustn't redistribute keys.
So not only are they covered, but you AGREED to it.
Who said they were doing so retroactively? Those purchased before the new method should still be the same, though they are still under the "please do not give and/or sell these" request of HB.
Besides, with the Steam integration, there may come a point where people can use their Steam Wallet for the bundles.
Well if that's the case then I'd be okay with it. I've only purchased one bundle since the change, but I have steam keys for games I already own on previous bundles that I'd rather not have disapear on me.
Yeah well if I paid 10 bucks for a bundle of which I owned one or two of the games... like I said, I'm not gonna feel bad if I give them to my brother or something.
Yeah, I wasn't sure if the new system intended to link all of my games simultaneously or just the one from which I was linking from. I haven't linked my steam account yet and the intial message which I copied and put in my OP wasn't very clear on the matter.
If the system allows me to pick and choose what I want to redeem, then yeah I'm totally okay with it.
Once you use OpenID to authenticate your steam account to the Humble Bundle store it will use that account when you 'redeem' games. You can still pick and choose which games you want to redeem from each bundle. For example, I did most of the WB stuff except ScribbleNauts because I already had that, so instead I gifted it to a friend. So it's not really that much different then before, its more 'conveneint' to gift to other steam users as then you don't have to have them put in some convoluted code they're likely going to screw up.
Though if you have a bunch of alts you're juggling, you do want to be careful 'which' account you redeem to. Because there are no take backs if you screw that up.
You can also click the 'gift wrapped box' on the far right of each key to gift a particular key to another Steam user directly.
Redeem and activate CD-Keys on your account."
