Online game taken offline and no longer playable, Refund possible?
Is it possible to get a refund on a game that is no longer playable because they decided to literally shut it down from all access?
I bought it on steam it got shutdown.

Talk to Steam Support. If they're in a good mood, they might.

Probably not, however if the game is gone for good, I'd flag it in the store for Steam to either remove it or place a note on the game's page that it's no longer playable. (Assuming the publisher didn't pull it from purchase themselves).

You got for sure, The battlefield collection and Star Wars Games. Both of em were online only games, and both of em arn't even playable, you can't even get past main menu

battlefield link wont even popup anymore but its on storefront.

i don't think steam is responsible for them you would need to take it up with the publishers . if they ended support that's there end . unfortunately they way games are these days thats gonna happen more often as publishers remove support for games that rely on an online componenet

Steam is selling these games as if they are still avaible and playable. These games went back and did updates to 100% remove playability such as battlefield.
There is no warning before buying. And is screwing people over and that steam is responsible for.
Steam is responsible for the management of the store. Any games and items hosted is their responsiblity to make sure they work.
If these game companies are taking down their games, then its up to valve to host it for them in the end on their servers.

As of May 31, 2014, online functionality, including network multiplayer and wireless chat, will no longer be available for this title. We regret any disappointment as a result of the shutdown of the services supporting these online features.

Enhanced Single-Player Experience - Join the rise of Darth Vader’s elite 501st Legion of Stormtroopers as you fight through an all new story-based saga where every action you take impacts the battlefront and, ultimately, the fate of the Star Wars galaxy.

Does the single player no longer work either?

thats just how it is , nothing lasts forever , and again it clearly states "online mo more "

True. Then again, who reads stuff nowadays? Clearly visible on this forum and even on Steam Bèta or Windows 10 preview, ppl click eagerly without reading carefully. Shown above for Star Wars, the Price + Add to Cart button is still visibly. As i see it, Steam should remove that button, but it might be unclear even for Steam and their partners, who´s responsable to do that....

Thats posted right at the bottom of the game page. Meaning you can't even log on to play it on singleplayer / coop.

And Battlefront has the ability to play online matches versing bots instead of players. But that is just a temp fix to a solution.

Once again, im going to say, Steam is a distributor, so it by all means is their accountability to make sure all games they are distributing work. They shouldn't be allowed to distribute games that clearly no longer work, and arn't useable. And if someone is to have one of these games, they need to refund them and take responsibilty for distributing products that are faulty. Just like Wal-Mart and any other buisness.
If Wal-Mart sells a item that doesn't work, they allow you to return it. Steam should be the same way.
What makes steam different then Wal-mart? Nothing.
Both are major distributors who if they distribute items that are faulty, need to take action and fix the problem. At the moment Steam is letting it persist.

Heres another game that claims to be online, but has all online support withdrawn and will immeditatly crash to desktop if you click online
