How do you become a moderator and what are the requirements ???

It's been said that asking to be one is the best way to not be asked to be one.

Your motive for wanting to be one is important, as there no room for someone who just wants "power" over others or to abuse it, or just wants it to make them feel important or boost their ego. A mod position is basically about knowing the forum and community rules and trying to keep them clean and friendly to all.

From what I can see of it, it's a mostly thankless, mentally exhausting, time consuming, endless drudgery of removing inappropriate posts, and spam, editing forbidden words or user info, determining who has broken the rules in such a way that warrants punishment, and applying those punishments to that account. It is likely to make a person disliked or even hated by a number of community members, have accusations of mod abuse leveled at them about every twenty seconds, and cut heavily into ones gaming time. There may be benefits normal users cannot see, but on the whole it's really not something the average gamer wants to get into.

If helping out on the forums is what your real aim is, you don't need to be a mod, you can help the existing mods do their job by reporting users who break the rules or by gently pointing someone to the rules they may not be aware of, and by posting relevant/helpful info or suggestions to those who post here.

I have done forum/global mod moderation before on a large site, and I can honestly say that is exactly right, word for word. It requires dedication to what you are moderating as well as a good amount of free time. Definitely not for everyone.

thank OP this was a good post i dunno why but i just feel like i want to be ablee to do more than i can atm.. and iwould be more encuraged to do it if i could see the result of my work in the forum

even thou i may have "trolled" a thread or 2 ive always had a nack to ba forgiving and friendly with people who say sorry or admit their errors

and i realy really try to keep an proper manner in the threads i post in but if people start attacking me for replying to their question and explaing why they are wrong .. then il be damned if i am going to sit idly by and let them steep on my foot

I will make sure to have a loyal stance towards the community..

but its really tough being gentle day in and day out if people keep posting the same filth and the same threads over and over

and then you reply to those threads in a good fashion they just say "why do you care?" or the classic"youre not a mod why are you carring?" its getting pretty dull to see that when you are trying to be helpful..

and dont get me started about those who resort to personal attacks in your profile.. and even resort to threats about all sorts of actions.

the reason why i would like to become a mod is not power or some hidden agenda.. its to help out and to help out in a better way then being attacked for not being a mod..

im just pointing out why i post in this thread

i love helping out in the community but i feel like i would do so much more if i could deal with threads more efficently.. and to have some sort of well.. way to stop people that break forum rules for the LuLz..

Thanks again OP for posting this and i hope the community gets better in the future as we can only go forward from here

Good luck and if you want you can add me any time

and yes my english isnt perfect i have well.. problems typing correctly in my native languange as well thanks to my bullies

Thanks anyway and it was Great reading this

" please note i am not asking to become a mod"

If the post is constructive and actually does add to the argument then reply to them and put your point of view across.

If it is rude, insulting, a personal attack etc. Report it. The moderators will review and deal/remove as necessary. Don't fight back, it just blows up!

HIRE ??? You do know mods work for free here right ?

IF you have asked, then your chances go right out the window. The golden rule is don't ask.

Because if you have to ask to be a mod, you don't deserve to be one.

Grave dug twice?

Follow the rules, help out and report rule-breaking content.

Pretty much summed up in one sentence.

well you people should invite more reliable people to be moderators because the ones you have at the moment pretty much suck.
I could even point a moderator who is a total idiot right now.

Are you talking about Steam forum moderators or Game forum moderators ? Because if you are talking about the former, that is just not fair to say. The Steam forum mods are the best moderation staff on the entier world wide web. They are awesome.

EDIT...And I can prove it, too.
