Windows 8 System Refresh - Missing d3dx9_41.dll
Refreshed my computer so all my files are saved somewhere, I guess, so I reinstalled steam and my trusty Lego Batman game. Now I'm getting "the program can't start because d3dx9_41.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem," when I try to start the game from the file. I have the latest DirectX so I don't think that's the problem.

Help please help

Run the dxsetup from the lego batman install folder. and REBOOT

And yes you HAVE to run the setup, because of the way the d3dx9 dll files work. It's a MS thing left over from the old DX days.

you never have the latest directx, directx is allowed to be modified by developers to add specific functions. thats why many games install directx over and over.

go to your <steam directory>\steamapps\common\Lego batman 2\Support\DirectX
and run DXSETUP.exe

Thank you both! Yes it worked. People are great.

Got one more if you don't mind. Is there any way to recover my old saved game? I wasn't too far into it, so it's all right if I have to start over but I thought I'd ask anyway.

the game uses no steam cloud for save files, in that case they are saved in some windows directory.

i dont do system refreshs that often but i think it wipes those folders, so if you startup the game and there is no progress, they are gone.

That is the case. Thanks for the heads up.
