Steam Voice Chat - Stuttering/Choppy Voice

I can hear my friends just fine without any choppiness, but when I use my mic, to them it is choppy and stutters, basically incomprehensible. I have not found any fix for this yet and it's been an ongoing issue for a long time, surprised there aren't more threads about it. I don't have any interfering programs either. What can I do?

There could be something to do with the microphone itself.. What mircrophone are you using?

seems like you have a low upload.

use teamspeak/ventrilo/mumble.

steam voice chat is peer to peer. the more people join the conversation the more your upload bandwidth is taxed. the named programs are all server-client systems, so your voice is only transmitted to the server once and not to every user.

Microphone works perfectly in literally every other application. My upload speed is over 800kbs, but even when I am talking to a single person it is choppy. I would use teamspeak and such but it is a little more inconvenient than using steam.

And it's not always choppy, it appears to be almost random.

I hope someone comes up with a solution for this. I get the same issue, playing online with my housemate (so same internet connection), I sound fine to him but he comes through clipped, choppy, and robotic.

In-game chat, teamspeak, skype, hangouts all work just fine. It's only steam.
This has persisted through a new microphone as well.
As for upload speed we get around 12 Mb/s so I don't think that's an issue.
