Why is Steam store lying?
So yeah.... for the past couple of months about 5/6+ I've decided to check the steam store everyday under the "Top sellers" tab to see if Counter Strike: Global Offensive remain in the top 5... now don't get me wrong its a valve game so they have the right to promote it more than other games I guess but I do feel that its lying to members who perhaps maybe just joining steam or are looking for a game and is wanting to find a game that's under the top selling ten..

I believe only once or twice within the past said months have I seen the game drop from the 1-5 position in the top sellers tab, but I cannot recall to date since the game has been released has it ever dropped out of the top 10 (this could be incorrect)

so I guess the point I'm trying to make, are you allowed to lie to the community by always making Counter Strike: Global Offensive stay in the top 5, when clearly there is at least 1 more game worthy of being in the top 10 position.

Yes I suppose you could say that it doesn't matter as its only one spot but many people (as steam has a huge membership) probably take the top 5/10 as the best selling games at the moment and in all likely hood really amazing..

and for other people, no I do not believe this game sells that often per day that it has remained in the top 5 by merit alone.

so I'm curious if other people think the lie itself is wrong or if people simply don't care. would love to have a valve representative comment on there so called reasoning's for keeping CSGO in the top 5

Have you ever thought, oh, I don't know, that maybe CS:GO is on the top sellers list because it's a, wait for it, top seller?

A peak of over two hundred thousand players this day and you think Valve needs to lie about CS:GO being a topseller *facepalm*

and wow, congrats that who played, not who bought the game... doesn't matter how many people play the game, doesn't mean to say that ♥♥♥♥ tones carry on buying the game every single day/week.

I'm not going to argue over my intelligence. CS:GO is practically always on sale; plus, people (especially cheaters) are buying multiple copies for their "smurf" accounts.

Trust me, if Steam were lying on their store page, there would be ads for TF2 hats and what-have-you every fourth pixel.

I disagree, granted the game does go on sale more than the average game I will not lie, and 95% of those sales are hackers/boosters buying secondary accounts to sell boosts on, don't get me wrong. but for the remaining times that it isn't on sale I fail to accept that so many people buy it so consistently that it remains in the top 5 every single day/week for the past 5/6 months I've kept an eye on it... not saying that on avg it should be in the top 10 more often than other games perhaps... but every single day?? can you really expect people to believe such a feat is possible over a fairly averagely done game that plagued so much by hackers that 99% of people play Faceit/ESEA to get away with them.. if not just stop playing all together. I mean I should know, I quit playing over a month because I got tired of going against so many in Matchmaking..

An argument from incredulity is not a valid argument. "I dont believe it should be in the top 10" is not 'proof' of anything. Its just your opinion. And it happens to be wrong

its the same rediculous conspiracy mongering that the "DayZ shouldn't be in the top 10" either. It's not based on any facts.

Attacking someone over pure facts only hurts your own intelligence rating.

Insulting people because they don't agree with your beliefs isn't going to get anywhere and just makes the debate look stupid.

The FACTS are that CS:GO over the past year has grown VERY large, and yes, the player base HAS increased dramatically that the game probably does sell VERY well indeed.

Peak players:

Dec 2013 86,000
Jan 2014 93,000
Feb 2014 92,000
Mar 2014 104,000
Apr 2014 151,000
May 2014 141,000
Jun 2014 122,000
Jul 2014 161,000
Aug 2014 160,000
Sep 2014 241,000
Oct 2014 237,000
Nov 2014 269,000

People are buying the game in the THOUSANDS every month. YOU may have stopped playing it, but tens of thousands of people have joined where you stopped!

The number of players playing AT ANY ONE TIME - and that won't be everyone who is buying it, has increased over 3x since Dec last year. It is the second most played game on Steam, it has THREE times the number of players than Team Fortress 2 which is a very popular, FREE game.... so why wouldn't this game be in the top sellers?

I do not recall the exact criteria the Top Seller category uses, but IIRC it's a total revenue in a certain timelapse.

Being CS:GO an 11€ game and the second most played game on Steam (after DOTA2) it's not so hard to see it in the Top Seller category, if you ask me.
I'm more surprised about titles like Farming Simulator 15, for example.

after they introduced new currencies, it made games affordable in some regions. that is also a side reason why csgo is in topseller.

almost 10 years later and its still the top seller. Baldurs gate 3 was only above it for about a week. there is absolutely no way in hell CSGO is being bought as much as steam top sellers says it is

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
