Dota 2 - Receiving uncompressed update from server
Hello everyone,

I have a problem and I am not able to fix it myself... I've done everything I could, everything I knew and now I really have no idea what to do next.

I lived in Paris, France and had a terrible internet connection but i was able to play dota in EU West and EU East servers without ping or lags or freezes or whatever (my PC is a Toshiba Qosmio x770-13g). Of course there were some random dcs from time to time like everyone but nothing special.

Now i moved to Sofia, Bulgaria and my internet connection is very good (I download at more than 5mb/s and upload at more than 1mb/s). I can play all my games in EU West except for dota 2. Whenever i connect to a server and the game starts I have a pink message in the console saying "receiving uncompressed update from server" and that is making my game updating while playing and it makes it impossible to play, too high ping and sometimes insane freezes like in this video : www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y6c2mWyI30

I checked online and found a few "fixes" like this one :
www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/...receiving_uncompressed/ but I can't find the "publishedfiledetails" file.

I found another solution too which was to change some settings in the console so that the packets that I send and receive during a game are smaller :
cl_cmdrate "25"
cl_updaterate "25"
rate "30000"
net_maxfragments "256"

I also completely removed and reinstalled steam and dota. I updated all my drivers and especially my GPU drivers and I reseted my router (TP-LINK TL-WR740N).

But I still have this problem and I can't play with my friends anymore in EU West and sometimes in EU East it's just unplayable.

I can play World of Warcraft on the French server I am in and I can play DayZ in French servers as well so that means that the problem is not from my side right?

If someone has a fix or knows what should I do next to try and fix this I would really appreciate your help. If you need more informations just ask and I will answer.

Thanks in advance for helping me.

Update : Now I really don't know where the problem is coming from, I went to a friends house with my computer and I still had the same pink message. He has a Mac and the same router as me and he doesnt have the problem.

I also tried with my smurf account to play at my place and I still have the same problem.

Try open task manager, kill any process named steamwebhelper (look for larger memory usage), works for me since those process eats alot of bandwidth and is running on background while playing...

Also make sure you dont have anything eating your bandwidth while playing ie download p0rn etc lelzz

Hello and thanks for your answer. I think we're not talking about the same thing about my download speed. Here is a speedtest i just did : http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4250261015

I believe that my problem is more abut the pink message that I receive: "Receiving uncompressed update from server" than the overlay but I can be wrong so I will try without overlay and keep you up to date.

see if i ping http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4250277097 my city then my ping is 7 if i ping your city http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4250284172 i get 56 ping

so what we can take from that is with my 165mb i get 56ping pinging you. you have 35mb pinging the closest server and 8 ping so when you ping denmark you most liky have really high ping not counting that mybe yout isp is bad or has old lines its your internet simple as

Your problem has been my problem for weeks but I just found a solution. Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y6c2mWyI30

Hope it work for you =)
This helped for me :

1. Forward your ports on your router. Google "dota 2 port forwarding"

2. Turn on QoS (quality of service) on your router(if it has that function)

I have a netgear router and this solved my "timeout" issues. This was on a 20Mbps Fibre connection.

There is no relation between Bandwidth and Latency. The relation comes into play only when ur using most of ur BW. And Latency mostly depends on the routing.
