[Solved] DNS Server Led to Slower Internet Speed

I recently looked at tips on improving ping in games. I saw that you could change your DNS server settings to something like Google's. I did this. It slowed down my internet speed by a huge amount. I would get 70-90 ping. Once I changed it, I got around 100-140 ping, almost making online games unplayable. When I changed the windows setting back to automatic DNS, nothing happened. I still get a crappy connection. Does anyone know what to do here?

Perhaps it was not reverted correctly. Try uninstall your network adapter and then reinstall the driver for it. That will revert the network adapter all back to default settings again.

I believe that there was something eating away at my bandwith. It seems to be perfect now.

dns server does not influence connection latency. it just influences the connection startup latency if you are using hostnames.

you enter google.com in browser, the request is sent to dns server, dns delivers the server ip back to you and from that point on the dns server is not involved anymore. you operating system and/or the browser saves something like google.com = 173.194.116.195

if you enter 173.194.116.195 directly in your browser no dns request should be made. same happens with every game server you connect to.

so you changed something else. did you use any "tools" to improve your ping?

Yes, be mindful of background apps. Such as AntiVirus, Firewall, Windows Updates, Downloader Apps, or background apps that may check for and/or download updates automatically.
