Windows Vista. OK For Steam????

I just got done migrating off of Windows XP Professional to Windows Vista SP2 Home Premium and for the most part I'm happy about it. I originally upgraded the OS due to Microsoft's discontinuance of Windows XP this April and I noticed a few games I wanted did not list XP as an initial supported OS. However I notice too that Vista is slowly being outed too where some games it requires Windows 7 minimum. Thoughts?

Steam itself will work for Vista, but most newer games will not like it.

Vista will still be supported. Most games will be using DX11 now since the new consoles finally came out. Vista supports it and as long as your GPU does too, you'll be fine.

I'd recommend ditching Vista however, it's just not as good as 7.

Vista support will end in 2017. It's highly adviseable to upgrade to Windows 7. Most games don't run as well on Vista and even a few games have compatibility issues on Windows 8.

My laptop originally came with Windows Vista SP1 but I was not too impressed with it at the time and Dell did not provide some kind of way to go to Windows XP so I took matters into my own hands and installed XP at one point by slipstreaming SATA drivers using nLite but then heard about XP going away and well I did all the updates to Vista including SP2 and all the other things. Now I'm up to date so if another 3 years I'm good to go for I'll wait it out until I have to upgrade to something else. Call me a procrastinator. I guess.

From what it seem micrsoft keeps taking one good one bad every time
So 2000 bad xp god vista bad 7 good 8....

There is NO POINT to upgrade yet at all, although it entirely depends on your situation. Hvae you just built this PC, intending it to last several years? If you have, then you might wish to consider it.

But some of the comments here are ridiculous. One of my PCs I use frequently runs Vista, and how many of my 700+ games run with it? Every one. The same as my Windows 7 machines.

Yes, Vista support is intended to finish by 2017, but that would still mean it can be used long after that. It really depends on you.

Its a laptop that was shipped to me from Dell. By the time Vista is obsolete I'll have 3 more years on Windows 7. And so forth.

Nothing to worry about then.
