Xfire and Steam no longer work together?
Since a recent update, Xfire and Steam no longer work together for me, even if I disable Steam in game overlay. Non Steam games still run with my Xfire just fine. Anyone any ideas why? Anyone else seeing this too?

Now before the predictable "lol wtf u want to still use Xfire for???!" replies, I know Xfire is on its last legs, but I find it really useful for voice chat and chat to friends on Yahoo and MSN networks. I don't like Steam voice chat at all because for some reason you still can't have voice chat come out of your headset, it has to come out of the TV/monitor speakers and it creates an awful echo sound on my setup and is basically unusable.

Xfire also works with way more games than any alternatives I've tried, especially older games.

It's fine on my end i have Steam, Xfire and Raptr all running at once no problems, i know that dose not help fixing anything but show's they do work together.

Oh odd, well I guess there's little or no chance of getting any support from Xfire. I suppose that's one of those live with it or reinstall your computer type of problems. Well thanks for letting me know anyway.

Nah i had a problem with XFire not installing a few months back so i contacted support and got a same day answer that fixed the problem pretty good really i thought.

Really? Well I guess it is worth a shot then. Last time I tried to contact Xfire support I couldn't even find a working link on their website.
http://support.xfire.com/

Here is a link to support, like you say it's worth a shot.

Well Xfire support says its a problem in Steam and won't be fixed unless I move to the new client. New client doesn't support google/yahoo chat in game though, which I find useful. Oh well, wonder what that new GoG thing will be like.
Ahh yeah i run the new client, it's just the same really but look's different that's all, probably worth getting because i dont think they add new games or update the older client.

New games are still added to the old client. Does the new client let you chat on Gtalk, Yahoo etc now?

Just tried it, the answer to that question is "nope" :(

Ahh i guess your on the middle client? i went from the old blue one (skipped the grey one) to the new beta (dont know if it's still beta) the old blue one did'nt have a few games on there but the beta did, plus i would never have anything Yahoo related on my PC there some sneaky mofo's.

This is actually a combo factor, but it's an issue on Steam's side. The issue only happens in the old version of Xfire where XIG hooking was not updated for the new input system. A number of games were not updated to use the new input system because of various problems in the old client, but the new client is always using the new input system & doesn't have this problem.

The reason why this is happening actually isn't our fault, it's a matter of Steam blocking XIG hooking through the old input system. As soon as Steam detects an old input system XIG hook, the game is immediately shut down without so much as an error to explain why. So if you want to complain to somebody about games shutting down with the use of the old version of Xfire, complain to Steam about it.

Why would I lie? We ran some tests after the Steam update that started causing this, we found that any game that didn't have the specified flag in our definitions for that game would be shut down immediately on XIG hook if using the old client.
