Download Games to new PC without Internet?
Hi, I am very sorry if this has already been discussed. I also am not sure if this is the right section to post this in.

So I am building a new PC today for the first time. All the parts are in, but yesterday I discovered that the motherboard I ordered does not have integrated WiFi. I suppose that because I have never done this that I assumed that was just standard for all motherboards.

So you can imagine how eager I am to get this thing together and get to playing some games. I really don't want to have to wait for a WiFi adapter to come in the mail but of course if there is no other option then I will have to.

So my question is, is there any way I can download a couple of games onto my new computer without connection to the internet? I was thinking maybe by using the Steam backup and restore feature I could download the backups for a few games onto a USB drive and then transfer them over to my new PC and then be able to play them without having to download steam from the internet?

This is just wishful thinking. I am not exactly sure that this could work but I would truly appreciate any assistance on this matter and advice on what I could do in order to get some games running without having to wait for a WiFi adapter to come in the mail.

Thank you in advance for your time and I will post more details if needed.

I'm not sure if you will be able to install Steam without an Internet connection. If you can, the simplest solution is to copy the game folders directly from the Steam/steamapps/common folder to the USB drive, and drop them in the same location on the new computer. Also copy the .acf files from the steamapps folder, and again drop those in the same location on the new computer.

Uh, does it have an RJ45? You can run to any office supply store and pick one up for like $5. Plug directly into your router and your online. Download games, then play offline.

Ok so I found a cable and I think it is a phone cable and not an ethernet cable. Can I use this to connect my router to my pc or will this mess something up? Thanks

Those use a diffrent kind of connector, so it won't even fit as it is too small.

Correct, it will not work. RJ45 "patch" cables of 6-10 feet in length can be purchased nearly anywhere, even in Home Depot, Staples, heck Walgreen's in my area even carries them, for like $5. Even some 24 hour 7/11 stores have them, so do the 24 hour Wal-Marts.

Ok, thanks for the help guys. I just found a Wireless USB Netgear Adapter that is very dusty so I am assuming it hasn't been used in a while. Should I expect any kind of trouble if I plug this in?

MOST wireless router/access points are backward compatible a/b/g/n, so you should be okay there.

Thanks, I'll let you know how it works out. I just downloaded the driver from the website onto a USB flashdrive so I'm gonna plug that in to the new PC and download it before plugging it in!

not to your router but if you have a 56k dialup modem you can plug into your landline telephone line and get internet that way, i think there are some free dialup internet sevices still around like juno so even if its slow you can download some games thought it might take a few days to a week to download
