CCleaner + steam = Fail?
Hey ! I had a lot of games installed on my computer.
This morning I ran Ccleaner(although, maybe it's not linked), and when I went back to steam, all my games were "grey"/not installed.

It feels so weird, all the content of my steamapps folder has been removed. But, my games are still visible as installed on my computer if I go to the Control Panel, on uninstall, I can see they are still there, laughing at me...

Any advices appart from "installing back everything"? :/

Restore from your backups.

Someone obviously deleted everything in your SteamApps folder without running the uninstalls.

First advice, stop using programs that mess up Steam. Second advice, start reinstalling. Steam might recognize the existing files.

you should not use CCleaner if you don't have the knowledge to do it also manually what CCleaner does for you. A normal enduser has no reason to run this program, even if their marketing strategy tells you otherwise, it will not make things run faster.
@ReBoot. I've been using CCleaner for years, with steam oppened at the same time, that never appened.
@TabrisDarkPeace: No one has access to my computer
@wuddih: Using CCleaner for years now and have to use it. Thanks for consideration.

I'm not sure it's comming from that software, I'm just telling what is the only specific thing I've done. I don't see any reason why Ccleaner would have deleted my steam data. I'm even pretty sure it didn't deleted anything important, since the size of what has been deleted doesnt match with the size of my steam game.

Also, if my games were "really gone for ever" I would have way more room on my Hard disk. Witch is not the case.

Looks like Piriform suddenly decided to screw up Steam.

Okay, okay

So (since you enjoy lists ;) ):

1: I didn't know people had problems like these.
2: could you stop telling me how stupid I am to use this device ?
3: could you be nice ?
4: The interresting thing to say would be the awnser to "why does CCleaner does that?" and "how to avoid that"

Thanks you all. Steam forum has been an amazing experience :)

when i said you're stupid?

I'm already used cc cleaner for almost 2 years

are you always 'run cleaner'?

or 'analyze' > 'run cleaner'?

the simple way to prevent this=you can always exclude steam folder from cc cleaner(options>exlude)

question: when you ran cc cleaner, how much data(mb/gb) is removed from your computer by cc cleaner?do you still remember?

so someone forces you to use it? blink twice if we should call the police.

It always amazes me how people use a program to save some megabytes on their storage drives when multiple terabytes are end-consumer industry standard today.
*blinks twice*

CCleaner isn't even needed to save a couple megabytes. Every single browser that doesn't suck can clean up after itself (assuming the term "cleaning" applies here at all) and as for the overwhelming burden of temporary files in %tmp%, Windows can clean them up just fine all by itself.

i'm use CCleaner all time, added steam caches to include - all work fine :steammocking:
I use a portable version
problem occurs when both coincide several factors:
1 the Steam client is installed on the default path
2 version CCleaner is installable with the startup and constant supervision
3 the user has a low level of knowledge
