Can't record fallout 4

I'm using OBS and I can't seem to record footage of fallout 4, I just get a black screen. I run the game in fullscreen mode and i've tried tips about matching the GPU of OBS and Fallout 4 up but I only have one GPU so that fix is irrelevant. Running the game in borderless windowed doesn't help either because the game doesn't have a borderless windowed option in my monitor's resolution (1600x900).

You can do ♥♥♥♥ with this game, The steam overlay wont work. Using the game app in windows 10 wont allow you to record either. if you are using a controller you have to disconnect it to press your recording shortcuts on the keyboard. The only capture software I have got to work is bandicam . Screw bethesda, they cant even make a game that is compatible with steam overlay features. WTF are they doing over there? Smoking crack or making a video game? I'm going to go with the "smoke crack" option.

The Steam overlay works for me.

lmao didnt know this got bumped but i found the solution you just have to modify certain parts of the games .ini file since for some reason the splash screen menu doesnt give you all the options you need to get fallout 4 into a recordable state

just start obs in administer it tell's you that when you look for a game capture :) my problem is when i record it with obs it's look's terrible huge frame drop iv tried different setting's and i got it to be a little bit better but it's still has frame stutter T.T anyone know a solution as i want to use obs but im forced to use bandicam which is the only one that seems to be able to record fallout without an issue

I don't recall exactly but I'm pretty sure you have to go to fallout4pref.ini and make sure that these to lines are set to =1.

bMaximizeWindow=1
bBorderless=1

It's a free version of FRAPS.

I use play.TV to record. OBS also works. You may have to tweak OBS slightly to work. I have a configuration page at home that says how it should be configured properly

Necrobump but if you are using OBS try using Window captcher and run FO4 in windowed mode.

This is not the solution, when recorded together with the desktop, it alerts and overlays on top of the game.

To activate the in-game recording ability with the NEW Steam Game Recording, you need to enable game overlay for all Games and for FO4.

I have re-enabled Steam overlay for my FO4 and now I can use this new recording feature that Steam has.

this thread was started 9 years ago, i think they've resolved their issues by now.
